question about adwords keyword tool?

hey all,

when I'm using adwords keyword tool to estimate traffic should I use Exact phrase option to get a better idea of the traffic I will get. I got to number one for satellite pc and have got minimal traffic but that is based off the broad search

keep in mind this is for s.e.o and not adwords

thanks,
Nick

Yes. You'll want to use exact match in the keyword tool, and pay attention to the local search total, when you're looking for keywords to target.

On the other hand, when you do actual google searches because you want to see what sites you are competing with, you want to search broadly, without quotes, because real people don't normally use quotes when they search.

I always use exact phrase to determine which keyword to use. If a keyword does not have at least 500 global searches (exact), I don't use it. That definitely tells me that most people are not using that perticular keyword to search the niche in question. Though, the broad searches might be massive, but exact really means alot. I always go for the exact phrase.

thanks for your responses I have just gotten a huge sigh of relief. Like a million sighs of relief in one.

so the exact phrase is how many times someone directly typed that specific keyword in google. not throughout the adsense network and such?

I don't know if searches done in site search powered by google are included in keyword tool totals. I wonder if that's a small fraction, anyway? Unless some huge site like facebook has search powered by google, but I just don't know...

Anyway, you have a PM from me. -- Patey

Exact match is when people type in that exact keyword phrase... And yes, you should use exact match - and whether you use the global or local traffic numbers depends on your product and whether you can sell it worldwide or not.
