Whats The Most Effective FREE Backlink Strategy?

Hi Warriors,

Like many others I'm trying to increase my number of backlinks, however, I really have little experience doing this other than adding links to footers that I post in forums and ezines etc.

Is there a better way to get backlinks that is also effective?

Perhaps link swaps from the JV section of this site? The section mostly appears to have backlinks for sale and I don't know if there is a good reason I don't see more people looking to swap with one another instead of purchasing them?

Any thoughts or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Randall

well if you are doing forum postings and article submission already- those are the best sources to get quality backlinks. submit to sites related to your niche. you can also try social network optimization. facebook and twitter are the best sources to get backlinks and also online publicity for your site. this will also get you healthy traffic

Article marketing and forum marketing are both good ways to build backlinks for little or no money...

But neither should be considered the only ways to do so...

You should always diversify the methods you use to promote your business... You never want to put all of your eggs into one basket...

Do keep in mind though that all methods that you can use have a real cost attached to them... You will either spend your time or your money...

In time, you will find methods that you can use to promote your business effectively... Once you have found a good way of doing it, maximize the effort you can expend on that method, then try other methods to extend your reach...

    You can:
    1. Write articles and submit to article directories.
    2. Submit videos
    3. Submit presentations to places like slideshare
    4. There are tons of places you can create profile links if you cannot locate them on your own you can subscribe to Angela's monthly packets.

If you really have time, I think the most effective and free will be blog posting in .gov or .edu domain.

There is some great information about press releases.

I highly recommend them. I suggest you do your keyword research first so you can write your articles and PRs around them.

Another very good method is social bookmarking, places like delicious help you to get backlinks as well, but remember not to spam, you drop your link, you add somebody's else link to your account, you add a friend or contact and you post another link from you.

I posted this in my WF bolg just a little while ago but I will repost it here for you.

I've noticed that some Warriors rely on others to find the High Ranking PR sites.

Here is a way you can find one way High Ranking PR site links in your own niche.

Let's say that you would like to find educational (.edu) sites to place backlinks on.

Here is how I do it. First I'll show you the search query I use and then I'll explain what
each part of it means and why they are needed.

    My search query:
site:.edu inurl:blog "post a comment" -"comments closed" -"you must be logged in" "internet marketing"

This is what I would type into the Google search box.

Now what does it all mean?

site:.edu tells G that I only want urls ending with .edu

Inurl:blog tells G that I only want sites that have the word blog included
    in the actual site url.

"post a comment" tells G to only return results that have post a
    comment in the listing.

-"comments closed" tells G to exclude any results that contain the
phrase comments closed. This weeds out the blogs that no longer allows
    comments to be added.

-"you must be logged in" tells G not to include results that require me to
be logged in in order to reply to a post. This is optional. If you don't mind
signing up and logging in prior to posting a comment them you can leave
    this out of the query.

"internet marketing" tells G that I only want blogs related to internet
marketing. This can be any subject that you choose. If your niche was
astrology then that is what you would put in the place of internet marketing.

TIP#1: If you use FireFox with the SEO4FireFox add on then you will see
which sites on the results page have high PR ratings. This will help you
narrow down the results to only the sites with high PR ratings.

TIP#2: You can change out the .edu in the query above and replace it
with any .com .org .net ... you choose!

I hope that helps you to find places where you can gain high PR
    back links to your sites.

All I ask is that you use this info the right way and Please do not go out
and start spamming these sites with BS posts. Make them a long term link
by posting valuable info, questions and such. Think long term investment.

    Hope that helps,
    Have a Great Day!

Thanks for the great post. I think there is a book on Amazon about great Google hacks where you can do more of this type of thing with your searches. Well done.

Article Marketing is a low level link building strategy. If you are going for some competetive keywords, this itself will be totally insufficient. You'd be better of building your own network and interlinking some of the sites.

.edu backlinks can be very powerful. Of course, you want to provide real content in your blog comments if that's the method you use. Too spammy is a bad thing.

    What about creating linkbait?
