All my posts and pages have disappeared overnight

Does anyone know what could have caused ALL my posts and pages to disappear?

I worked on my site until 1:30am this morning adding posts, deleting plug-ins, adding new plugins and generally cleaning up.

This morning I check my stats and have had lots of spiders and even three visitors. But, horror of horros, not one single post or page is there!

I don't know why this should have anything to do with it, but it is an autoblog and I place my posts in draft and manually publish them.

Any insight at all would help!

Thanks

Worse comes to worse, your web host will have a backup of your website that you can ask them to restore...

I cannot think of anything that would have caused that though...

i agree , bill. the webhositing can solve this issue. although that is very strange. i have never heard of such a thing. if it's wordpress based i never had any issues with my wordpress based sites anywhere near that before. should just be a matter of getting in touch with the host though.

you can directly contact wordpress and tell them about this problem. maybe its a temporary glitch and it should be back soon. because the whole site disappearing is extremely rare.

I recently had a guy do some work on my wordpress blog. A few days later I was doing some page edits and I found his username "Warning: X is currently editing this page"..

    Strange enough.

I emailed him and asked if he was working on something and he told me no. He mentioned that a lot of wordpress blogs are getting hacked at the moment so I would be VERY wary of any valuable content and information.

I suggest you upgrade to the latest versions and invest in professional back up services if you have a ton of info.

Definately check what your host can do for you at this time.

If this is an autoblog, where are you getting your blog posts from?

If you are stealing RSS feeds from other blogs it could have been that someone filed a DMCA notice with your host.

I woke up today and found 2 of my sites posts, pages, and comments were all GONE!!! pretty sick feeling for sure.

I called hostgator found that they had a server upgrade in the past day and it messed up some wp databases, they went in and repaired all my databases and my sites were back... give them a call and should be able to correct it for you.

The posts are Amazon products & Click bank, both with my affiliate ID, and ezine articles. No RSS feeds at all. No stealing going on at all.

Plus, my site is still there, my adsense ads, youtube videos, still there, just no posts or pages. I have sent hostgator an email so I will see what happens from there.

Dean, I have the latest WP version and even did a couple of plug-in updates last night.

    thanks for your feedback.

I use WordPress Database Backup plugin to backup my blogs and it sends an email with the backup attached however often you need. That makes it a lot easier than contacting your host, as there is no waiting involved, and just a couple of clicks to upload:

WordPress Database Backup - Austin Matzko's Blog

Too late for you now of course, but could help in future.

But thanks for letting us know there's a post-snatcher about!

Thanks for all your tips and recommendations. I just heard back from HG and they have been able to restore everything. They told me that they 'fixed' the database. I have gone back and asked them if it was something I did.

      Thanks again folks.

That probably means that the sql server crashed or the wp_post table got needed to be repaired...

Thats what it usually is, the table in the DB messing up. Scares you the first time, but if you have backups etc, its no big deal.

I noticed a drop to nearly zero sales across all of my sites starting yesterday. This morning I checked my sites, and they were all up. However, the permalinks were all broken, so I couldn't get to any posts or pages.

HostGator support said I needed to redo my .htaccess files.

No indication on what might have caused the problems.

    ---EDIT---

The .htaccess files looked ok, however I had to delete the existing file and upload a new one. After doing this, I had to log into wp-admin, then go into Settings to reset the home page to the static page that's supposed to show (I have most of my sites set to display a static home page).

The file date on the .htaccess files were all 8/18, and I hadn't made any changes to these sites in weeks, so HG must have done something...
