    Telecom companies have for a long time had similar protections - which is why they can't be sued or prosecuted for people planning crimes using the phone. ISPs wrapped themselves around that too when they first provided public access and later websites, and as indicated here, blogs and Web 2.0 sites like YouTube, as well.

    The DMCA is something we all should be as familiar with as possible. Both to issue take down notices for people who infringe our content - and also to protect ourselves when people wrongly accuse us for infringing their content. Its a popular way for large organizations to get unflattering blog posts, videos, etc taken down.

    Sites such as the Salty Droid have had to deal with that aspect of it for a long time.
