    using a free email client is the fastest way that i know to get your ip banned! trust me i know. companies pay big bucks to buy large quanities of ip address to use for their email servers. this way when one is flagged they have another to go to.

    find a emailer like aweber that has a trial offer going on and go from there

    When I wanted to start building a list, I also thought about getting a free one, luckily I came to my senses and signed up with Aweber.

    You are going to make a lot of money with this list, if you do it right, so don't take short custs with a service that is not that professional. Your customers will see that.

    Just sign up with Aweber, I believe they are the best and most trusted one. You can sign up for only $1 for the first month I think.

      Starting out in email marketing isn't expensive. What good is an autoresponder if your messages never get delivered?

      Hell aweber well give you a month to try it for $1. UP to 500 subscribers then its just $19 per month. If you manage to build a list of 500 subscribers and can't $19... You could in the wrong industry.

    I think mail chimp might be free for 'x' amount of subscribers.

    But you can start with Aweber for only a buck, thats hard to pass up. Plus when you actually get a list you will have a hard time moving it to a different service. Pretty much everyone uses Aweber or Getresponse.

    Oh, and I've heard that you can lose your list using mail chimp b/c they don't allow affiliate marketing. Again, I'm not so smart at times, so that may be wrong. lol

    I can understand your desire to go free with the services that you will use, but a business is something that you must invest money into to be successful with it...

    Those of us who have found success online spend money to build and sustain our businesses...

    You just have to figure out what you can do for free and what you cannot... And when it comes to email marketing systems, spending money is often the BEST SOLUTION...

    A better question to ask yourself is "how can I make enough income to afford the BEST EMAIL SOFTWARE..."

    Think about it....if you owned a great company would you work your butt off then give it away from free?

    Companies exchange money for value....

    Most people will probably say aweber is the best way to go. If you used some free techniques to say promote some instant commission products you could IMMEDIATELY be able to afford the "best" software....

    While this isn't your original question, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume what you really want to do is "maximize your profits" which DOES NOT always mean minimizing your costs....

      - Cut down on driving and save Gas. If you can save $.66 a day in gas then BOOM....you enough for Aweber.

    How are you planning to build your list?

    If you just want to give away a free report via a squeezepage / blog then I would go with listwire. Delivery is fantastic and no adverts in your broadcasts / follow-up series.

    If you're wanting to integrate it with a product via a membership site then you'll need to go for a paid option like aweber, infusionsoft, icontant, getresponse, ect.

    Overall if you look at all of the top people none of them use a free service, so that should give you the hint that these services aren't scaleable.

    Getresponse is dirt cheap. They have a free/limited option and after that $9.95 to start. You can expand your payment plans, as your lists grow.

    BTW, you are building up, your post counts nicely, with them 1 to 2 word replies

    Asking this question shows me you don't know a whole lot about building a list and email marketing in general. There is a lot of great information here on the WF about email marketing.

    "Absolutely Free" isn't going to help you with list building and email marketing. You do get what you pay for and if you are serious about building a good loyal list, then you should either go and get Aweber or Getresponse. Both are good autoresponders, but Aweber is a bit better.

    "Free" email marketing software has many restrictions, and in the end it's not even worth having.

    I would discourage using a free service to get started then migrating to a paid service. Paid services require a new verification and you can lose many subscribers that way.

    Get response has a free entry point but you should get a high quality auto responder.

    An auto responder is one of the best tools you have and it is NOT a place to start getting cheap.

    Aweber has a 1$ trial and is only 19$ a month to start.

    When you start having some people on your list your going to regret not having a good auto responder.

    You can get spam complaints, bounces and a host of other problem.

    A proper auto responder is essential and with aweber's low entry price and get response's even lower entry price there is no point in not getting a good auto responder.

    If you are using WordPress I just recently came across a quite interesting plugin that is obviously able to replace a paid Email service, BUT it's not free. Since it is a one time payment, you would avoid recurring monthly fees.

    The plugin is called EmailBuddy, created by the iThemes team. I personally think $197 is way overpriced, but as I said, maybe it's another alternative for you.

      First off, I have to tip my hat to the Aweber marketing team. Seems that as soon as someone mentions email marketing, the first thing anyone thinks of anymore is "third party autoresponder service". Which makes sense if you want to send pre-scheduled messages.

      You can manage a small broadcast list using free email clients like Thunderbird, but if your list grows to any size, managing it will be a pure pain in the ass.

      If you have your own domain and hosting account, you could use the built in mailing list software just about any host will offer (Mailman is one of the most common).

      For one-time replies, you could get an email address and set the "vacation reply" to send your message.

      If there is absolutely no way you can figure out how to pay for the proper tools, you can scrape by, but I can't recommend it for all the reasons others have already given you.

    After using free autoresponder php scripts and losing a list of over 2000 subscribers I would have to go with the majority of posters above and say Aweber. It really does the job.
