Using a company name - Is this infringement?

I have an app on the app store and in the keywords section, I have entered the name of another company's product.
This means that if someone searched for that keyword, my app would show up.

Would this be breaking the law?

The company has contacted me and asked me to remove the keyword.

I know there are few legally minded people here but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JH

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.

You are risking A LOT asking for help in a forum and not from a lawyer.

If your keyword is their trademark the company can file a lawsuit. Will they win or lose? That's up to the jury.

you can use any trademark name on your site or blog or anywhere else as long as it is used for informational purposes. if you are using the trademark for monetary gain and capitalizing on someone else's trademark, then the company can file civil suit against you and take you to court. whether or not they will do it or not and how far the company in question is willing to go is the question. they will have to compare the cost vs. benefit as taking you to court will cost them 10s of thousands in legal expense. they will have to justify the cost before taking any legal step.

if the company is coming forward and asking you to remove the trademarked keyword, then it will be wise to do so. i would not suggest you taking any risk and you never know what you are gonna get into
