Hi Istvan,

Congratulations on your 2,000th post.

I am very new to WordPress and was slow to jump on the WP bandwagon. Talking to other people who have used nothing but WordPress, I was surprised that they didn't know any HTML or how to use a WYSIWYG editor.

Those are basic things, to me. And while I understand we all know different things, the flexibility of using HTML sites can outweigh the convenience of WordPress in some cases.

Well done and thanks especially, for your technical tips.

HTML is more secure than Wordpress, Wordpress is intalled on a database on your server which can be vulnerable to hackers. You need to have a login page on your WordPress installation which can be tempting for hackers to "have a go" to try and guess your password.

WordPress uses more resources on your server than HTML. For a 10 page site do you really need fully fledged content management system which is primarily blogging software? Although WordPress is very powerful, there is definitely a learning curve which is just as steep if not steeper than HTML.

OK, if you do site flipping, you may want to avoid using WP. If you and/or the buyer don't know exactly what to do to transfer and re-create the blog on the buyer's server, it can be a real nightmare. I know from personal experience, unfortunately.

Otherwise, I think it's a great platform.

I will tell you why I have only recently started using Wordpress. Hacking. I'd read so much about WP sites getting hacked that I wouldn't take the risk. I had a static site hacked once that cost me a small fortune, and WP seemed like an open invitation to hackers.

I actually started a WP blog a couple months ago, after hiring an expert (Leslie B) to install it for me to reduce the vulnerabilities. Even so, I signed up with a new host so if it got hacked it would be the only site affected and my proven money sites would be protected from having WP used as a back door to them.

I still worry about the security, perhaps from a lack of knowledge, so I haven't used WP for any other sites. Don't know if you'd consider this a rational and logical argument, but it is the actual reasoning behind why I've always created static sites and resisted WP.

Thanks for your first 2,000 posts. Some of your posts about WP were part of the reason I'm finally giving it a try. Now go make another 2,000 posts!

Well, I'm sure the video series must be great but what I like more is the question you've asked.

WP is really a great blogging/CM, system. It's very user friendly, updated frequently and has a great amount of themes/plugins/add-ons from 3rd parties to make it a seemingly complete web solution.

Although, I personally feel that using WP for every site isn't a very technically sound approach to website development for the following reason:

A wordpress user very rarely operates without plugins. Plugins do make life pretty easy in a bucket-load of ways but the problem lies within the dependency we tend to place on a particular plugin. A faulty or outdated plugin can easily cause several issues for a site ranging from a quick-fix to something more devastating. Additionally, the non-technical users of WP (a large percentage of WP users overall) may not easily identify what has caused their site to face technical issues. So as you can see since WP relies heavily on 3rd party software (to generate flexibility) the looming dangers of bugs and faulty code grow with each plugin.

Although dmadnani beat me to it, my reason for NOT using WP for everything lies in the fact that there's no centralized plug-in authority.

The fact that you have to wade through literally hundreds of plug-ins to find the one that best fits your needs, is daunting. Not to mention the upgrade cycle isn't necessarily the same as that of the core WP. PLUS the fact that not all plug-ins play well together.

I wouldn't have a clue why not to use WordPress provided that it is correctly installed. I use it for all of my sites. Hmm, no, that's not correct, I have one html adsense site, and then a few squeezepages and salespages that don't have Wordpress. But if it's a site I want to update easily, Wordpress is the way for me.

Because it is not the ONLY game in town. I use Wordpress, Joomla, Microsoft Frontpage (yes I actually use MSFrontpage) Dreamweaver, and straight HTML. All of these have their strengths and weaknesses depending on your needs.

Happy 2,000th Post and St Istvan's Day. So you really were holding back on posts until it became nearer to St' Istvan's Day. That's how you made them coincide.

Why not to use WP for any site?
My first site is a webshop and is build on another platform. I have no clue if this would be possible in WP 3.

I just started today with my first WP 3 site and it is very impressing. I'm still trying to find out which plugins I need to make the best out of my WP site. So acyually I would you have asked us why we need your video tutorials

* you wouldnt do a forum on wordpress
* I make lots of little free sites to build links and traffic to main sites prefer blogger
* wouldnt always use wp for landing/squeeze pages

I think speed maybe a factor in deciding not to use Word Press...a Pluggin loaded WP can sometime take ages to load.

My concerns lie with plugins more than wordpress.

Here we go:
Most beginners install every plugin they find. This can slow down your site significantly and you can potentially get shut down by your host.

If a critical plugin is no longer supported, you're faced with getting 'stuck' at a certain WP version or lose the functionality.

I wish Wordpress let me choose whether I want to post entries in reverse or regular chronological format without modding code. The traditional blog posting format hinders it's ability to function as a CMS or a Step by Step style site or membership.

I wish Wordpress could let me assign certain sidebars to certain posts and pages without having to create tons of sidebars and page templates.

For a single page squeeze/sales page, an HTML page will load much faster than a one page WP install, even configured correctly and with NO plug-ins. (In my limited experience)

A parsed single page in HTML will load slower as well, but there is no reason (with a white hat page) to parse a single page.

That said, I do love WP, and will no doubt buy your WSO as I know I am over 5th.

(You are the only person I would buy a WP tut from, 'gurus' included). I am very interested on your take to the 3.01 build and if once a stable version is released, whether it is really necessary to up-date, except for security reasons, but cannot patches be re-coded without up-dating the whole thing and risk a theme/plug-in conflict? I used an old 2.3.3 for ever as every security update only fixed holes previous update (2.4-2.9) created and 2.3.3 stayed stable and secure when other WP installs were falling to hackers and plug-in conflicts, (didn't update plugins either). (Or maybe I just got lucky)?

Simplicity may be the best reason not to use WordPress for everything. When I need a 1 to 5 page site for a squeeze page, an iframe for a CPA offer, or even just a simple 1 page sales letter, installing Wordpress and the required plugins requires extra time and resources. The simpler site is going to load faster, and use less server resources.

When I am creating a site to manage content and plan consistent updating is when WordPress becomes the ideal solution.

Why not to use WP?
Simple.

I focus on squeeze pages. Its overkill.

I have no idea why not to use wp. I use it because I don't know much about html and wp is easy to work with. I am not posting this for the gift, I am just posting to congratulate you and thank you as well.
In case if you haven't notice, You have been giving gifts to this forum each and every time you respond to a question I or many others have. Although, most warriors have played a big rule in helping me solve my problems, you are the only person who has solved more of my problems than any other one individual. For that I thank you. And congrats on 2000 post.

Why not to use Wordpress for everything? Well horses for courses would be my simple answer. Additionally, I never put all of my eggs in one basket.

Since it goes without saying that you are to be congratulated on your 2000th post and thanked for your delightful give-away contest, well, I'm not going to say it. But I will think it!

Now, on to Wordpress, eh!

So, Why not use Wordpress for every site in Internet Marketing?

Simply because...

I don't have to!

There are many quality options out there besides Wordpress.

While it is a pretty nice system, the main reason is I won't use WP on all my sites is because Wordpress and all its fussy plugins belong to someone else. They are in control, not me.

As a recent example, with my latest upgrade to WP 3.1 - my favorite 'Print Post' plugin by Lester Chan has gone wonky. Lester has moved on to other things and is no longer upgrading or maintaining the plugin. A major part of my offline marketing campaign was based on that plugin. It allowed my customers (and subsequently, their customers) to print their ad posted on my local directory. Now its kaput. And I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement. What a hassle! A major hassle!

So many things can go wrong with Wordpress. Lovely as it is, it simply isn't reliable enough for those of us who are 'Wordpress Impaired.'

When something goes wrong - as it certainly will - you have to get someone 'in the know' to fix it for you. If you are not married to someone 'in the know' or have not produced someone who is 'in the know' well hey Monica you are *#^+ out of luck, orange you?

And what about all those lovely 'free' themes. With encoded scripts embedded in them. That you have no idea what they say or even what they are actually doing in there.

Do these scripts leave icky things on you or your customer's computer?

Or perhaps they send them to dubious destinations. Now, if your customers like wherever it is that they are being sent, well, that's sort of okay, except that it really isn't. Because YOU are the one who should be in TOTAL control of your own website. Customers must be managed according to YOUR wishes, not some sneaky theme coder.

WAIT! There's more.

Wordpress is a simply a 'wannabee' content management system.

You said so yourself.

In your 'Dreamtool' document.

I'm finding that WP is a PITA to set up!! But, you've helped me with a good part of it.

I think for setting up a simple site that another platform might be easier. Despite what some say, you DO need to know a bit about CSS and PHP to properly set up your site.

Also, it took me hours to solve what I think should have been a simple task of deleting default titles from my pages. But, I think that was more of an Artisteer thing than WP.

There is no reason, the end.

It was brought to my attention (thank you, marketguy) that I didn't say in my OP when the decision about those 5 copies will be made.

To be honest, I've planned it earlier than it will happen. The plan was to announce it right before they go up on sale... but the launch had to be postponed for a few days due to minor technical glitches

Why not use Wordpress for everything?

1. Maybe some people prefer other web 2.0 sites; like myself.
2. People don't know so much about IM as you do.
3. Other people's friends might be apart of other web 2.0 communities (not wordpress)
4. Some people may get better results with other web 2.0 sites, then they get with wordpress.
5. It may be too complicted for beginners.

There are a lot of good reasons listed to not use WP for everything, for me it simply comes down to the right tool for the right job...simple static sites don't require the cms properties included in WP..it's overkill and quite frankly more work than is needed to maintain it.

As someone who's always been afraid of making web pages, I can't think of any reason to use anything other that WP for myself. It's so simple I can use it and it's modular allowing me to add pieces I want simply. There really is no other choice for me.

You shouldn't use WP because you'd rather spend countless days searching for scripts that make your website interactive and easy for people to visit and navigate.

I have recently become a Wordpress fanatic, but, all research I've read and heard state static html pages sell the best.

Why? I don't know. Perhaps because with a static html page you have to shut up and listen instead of considering a clever comment for the comment section

Congratulations on your 2000+ posts, I would like to know from you that do we have another better option other than wordpress? It is easy to use and makes you comfortable in earning online.

With the knowledge you share for free about WP on the forum, I am unbelievably grateful to have these. I am hugely grateful you made them at all, and being one of the ones that got them free is the lesser bonus, however, still appreciated.

I hope you don't mind an unbiased an honest opinion after I see them, however with the quality of info and time you spend helping others on this forum, there is no doubt these will rock! Just based on their size, they are packed with info and high quality videos.

(Might even enjoy them as much as I enjoy old 'The Prisoner' re-runs. Lol.)

I think I stated I'd be buying these... never occurred I'd be one of the 5, so money was obviously not a motivation in your decision as I was a sure buyer!

I missed out on that one. But happy names day Istvan. I know they do the names-day thing in Slovakia.

I use wordpress for most sites I create for the convenience. I can get around speed issues by using WP-Cache. The only issue I guess is security, and if you need something bespoke that WP and it's myriad plugins don't need.

Well if you don't know how to install and set it up and can't get anybody to do it for you, and you just can't learn how to do it yourself to save your life, then by all means
