Get a bunch of links pointing to it on your own and get yourself an army of affiliates that will all point their review pages to it. As the affiliates link back to their own pages, it will pass juice on to yours. Get enough links and enough affiliates pointing to it and you'll stand a shot at it.

Running an offer on ClickBank I thought that would work... but it looks like it's probably just boosting up ClickBank... and not my offer.

Setup a wp blog, install the essential marketing plugins and try to get your blog ranked high, for your keywords and lead them into your sales page from the blog.

      Don't want to do that

The first thing is to try and buy a domain with the keyword in it.

Write the page so that it is optimized with regards to search engines.

Then build backlinks using the keyword that you want to rank for as the anchor text.

If it is insanely competitive pay someone else to build the backlinks for you.

by posting SEO questions in the SEO form (sorry i had too)

but on a serious note I think magic mel had it right. even if you dont want to use WP/blog you still need some substance. if your word really is insanely competitive, i do not think it is plausible to think you can rank with a sales page alone. Maybe you can if your SEO is hardcore enough, but i don't think so.

Brian's idea is smart too. if CB is taking too much juice from you, find another way.

if me, i would start with trying to rank as many inner pages as you can for low competition very long tail keywords. tackle as many of these as there are available.

as you start ranking more and more of those, you will be able to start ranking for short phrase keywords

eventually you should find your self able to compete with the more competitive and more broad terms

for long term goals I find this approach best for a few reasons. you start to get traffic from the start by ranking for the low competition KWs. in the process you add a lot of content to your site that cover a lot of different areas of the niche. The combination of these 2 things will start to establish your site as an authority in the niche (thus making it easier to rank for more keywords).

so someting like this for example. start with really broad and work down

how to make green widgets from scratch
how to make blue widgest from scratch
ways to make purple widges from scratch
directions on making red widgets from scratch

      then

      green widgets from scratch
      blue widgets from scratch
      how to make green widgets
      making purple widgets directions

      then

      how to widgets
      make widgets directions
      widgest from scratch

      then

      blue widgets
      green widgets
      red widgets
      purple widgets

      then

      widgets

Doing it with a blog is no secret

That's why I'm asking people on here if they've ever done it with a sales page... probably those who have done it (if any have) are making too much money to share their insights.

all i am saying is that you can still build inner pages even if it is not a blog. then rank those pages and have them link back to the sales page. have the sales page optimized for the insanely competitive keyword and have all the anchor text from the inner pages use the keyword.

i guess, if you got enough high authority backlinks directly to your sales page you would rank it. but you probably know as well as i do that you cannot just go out and get those. those have to be earned. i guess you could try to hit it off with the media or something or get some big names to promote your product or something like that.

however, if you dont have some strategy to make your product just "blow up" then i think starting long tail and working your way down is the way to go.

but hey i am not claiming to be an expert, just trying to give my opinion. anyway, i am sleep deprived right now and slightly delirious and probably shouldnt even be posting. maybe i am way off base.

            That's not a bad idea...

I'm starting to give up on the idea though. hah

I was just wondering if it really could be done.

I don't know if it's possible without linkbait or without mountains of money to spend on linkbuilding.

You can do most of the above suggestions, and add one little extra tip; Go to Youtube and find videos that are ranke pretty high in your niche, and make coments on these videos if aloud. Either have a link as a sig.. or your video link to your own site.

What usually happens is that you comments gets linked to the top ranking videos you made comments on, and your site gets crawled and ranked faster.

Also don't forget you can always put up your own videos as well. But, unless Youtube has already caught on, this works pretty well. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to give it a try. Worked for me few times... before I jumped on the marketing on Facebook banwagon.

Nice one I like it. I don't think we can afford that position nor the competitor(s) willing to give up the spot heheh...If you need it #1 rank, fight for it.

Well, clickbank can help your page rank increase as you will get some traffic to your page from clickbank. Probably not much since your gravity is not high enough i assumed? My advice is that you should give up to be #1 since it is virtually impossible at the rate you currently doing. Try to aim for #2 maybe

Use your sales page as a home page of your site and build a blog behind it. Post a lot of content of your blog with 50-100 keywords around your main keyword for the sales page. The important factor is update frequency - so make sure to add at least 4 post on your blog per day.

    Build backlinks together with content.

Four per day? That's a lot of content! Would Google not find that un-natural?

I don't see sales pages ranked #1 for insanely competitive keywords very often... If it's possible I think that this is the hardest task in the whole internet marketing thing.
