Question about my first foray into Affiliate Marketing...

I'll keep this as brief as possible. I went to clickbank, found a product that I want to promote, and registered a keyword-rich domain. I'm not sure how to properly link to the product because of the way the vendor's website is setup. For those interested in helping me, please go to the Clickbank Marketplace and type in the keyword "weddingspeech4u" to find this product.

My question is, should I be pointing my hoplink to the main page, or do I have to point it to an individual product within their site in order to earn my commission? In other words, does pointing my hoplink to their homepage earn my a commission on any product that is sold through that click, or should I be pointing to a deeper product page within the site?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's a hard lesson, but I think this has taught me that I must first give help here before I can expect to receive it. So let me see what I can do. Off to offer some help...

I don't think that was the problem, Anthony. I suspect that nobody who knew the answer happened to see your thread yet, that's all!

The problem with this product, as an affiliate, if I may say so, is that the vendor gives on his site alternative payment methods. You'll be paid affiliate commissions only on sales to those customers who happen to select the Clickbank option. On anyone else, you'll do all the work of "generating the customer" for the vendor (as affiliates do), and get nothing.

It defeats me how vendors with this kind of paying arrangement can hope to attract serious affiliates.

Sorry - not the answer you wanted, I know.

Have you seen this page? It's the vendor's affiliates' opt-in page, through which you can perhaps contact him, if you wish; but I have to say that in my opinion it's unlikely that he'll have any serious affiliates.

You don't need to link directly to the product or any spacific page - That's not how hoplinks work.

When someone arrives at the home page of the website you are promoting through your hoplink a cookie is stored on their browser.

The cookie will contain your clickbank ID so if the person buys the product you get the commission.

The cookie is stored for around 30 days ( I Think ) so even if the person leaves the site after entering it through your hoplink you will still get the commission if they come back a couple of days later to buy the product.

Only if they buy it through Clickbank. With these products, they have another option, which many will prefer.

Subject to a lot of other "ifs" and "ands" and "buts", yes, that's the position.

    Good point Alexa

I would avoid vendors with two payment options as you will not get commission if they chose to pay through paypal instead of clickbank as Alexa pointed out - It's very likely most would choose the paypal option.

Thanks for pointing those other things out - Still a bit of a newbie myself but getting there

Thank you all for your replies. I did not notice that there were two different payment options on the site, so thanks to all who pointed that out. However, I counter with this: The main reason I chose this product, as opposed to others with the same keyword, was its gravity. According to Clickbank, there are a lot of affiliates making sales with this product.

Am I missing something? Should the gravity statistic, in this case, have an asterisk attached to it?

Yes. What's explained above. You won't get paid for many of your sales.

All gravity statistics should have an asterisk attached to them. This one should have two.

In my opinion, having a high gravity is yet another reason for not promoting the product (not that "another reason" is needed, in this case, I hasten to add!). If you imagine that a high gravity figure is an indication that "the product is selling well", I respectfully refer you to this thread.

Alexa, I totally agree with the person who replied underneath you in the thread you pointed me to. You are quickly becoming my hero, too!

Anyway, luckily for me, I setup my domain as a redirect, so I'll just use this new information (to me) about gravity, and choose a different product to point my redirect to. I was considering doing this anyway, since I contacted the vendor two different ways with this same (OP) question, and got no response. Not a good sign...

Sounds kind of shady but I would hope you would get paid a commission on any product that is purchased on that particular vendors website or sales page. Usually it is one product that is advertised and you would receive a commission on any sale that is generated through your hoplink, or banner.

I would try to find a different product to promote if I was you or better yet make your own and keep all the commission if your knowledgeable in that particular niche.

I would also add adsense, and try to build a mailing list somehow if possible I recommend Aweber. You may want to add Amazon ads too related to something they would need for a wedding tuxes, ties, liquor lol very stressful j.k. Flowers, a D.J use your imagination!

    Good luck!

Thanks, Jay. I learned about this method that I'm using awhile ago, and it's the quickest way I've learned so far to possibly make money online, so I'm going to go for it. Since it involves using a redirect, I won't have to worry about any other monetizing, at least for now. If this method doesn't perform well, then at least I have the redirect (hopefully) earning me money while I build the website as a wordpress blog. Then, once I have content created for the blog, I'll remove the redirect and point the affiliate links elsewhere, changing the domain to the blog instead.

    Thoughts?
