Is there a way to input the tracking code of a website (that belongs to someone else) into Google Analytics to find out how many hits the site is getting a day - plus the keywords that are driving the traffic? Would that make me a hacker?

Also, how does anyone out there find out what keywords a site is optimized for? At the moment I am just copying the keywords from the source code and then inputting them in Market Samurai's Rank Tracker and seeing how the site scores against each key word. Does anyone else do this or is there an easier way of finding out?

I have been asked by quite a few people to optimize their sites and I just want to thoroughly research where their sites are up to in order to know how best to steer them.

That wouldn't make you a hacker no, but a hijacker yes. I doubt that technique will work due to levels of verification used by Google. I think the code they give you for your site must match the one on your Google account.

Google "keyword google" and use Google's keyword tool. That should give you some results.
