It depends on your budget you can do PPC if you want a quick fix. But for long term traffic you are gonna want to concentrate on free traffic generation methods.

    1. Article marketing
    2. Press releases
    3 Submit Youtube videos
    4. Post in forums your here so thats covered
    5. Submit to classified sites
    6. Start a blog on a topic that you are passionate about
    7. Comment on blogs with a link back to your website and make sure the topic is related
    8. Learn basic SEO
    9. Start an email list
    10. Do adswaps with other marketers once your list is built up a little.
    11. Linkbuilding builds backlinks which in turn increases your Google page rank, and your serp positioning.

These are just some of many ways to generate traffic.

Jay gave you an amazing list so I would start there.

I will add one technique that shot my traffic through the roof on a few occasions this year. If you are involved in blogging at all or have website that have lots of bloggers discussing your topic, write a guest post on a big blogging site.

Not all bloggers will accept a blind request for you to write a guest post. A strategy that works for me is I will create my own blog post or blog video commenting on the content of a big name blogger then I link to their post. This shows up on their radar as a trackback and immediately they know who I am. They are usually quite honored that you wanted to blog about their content.

Now when you approach them to write a guest post, they will be much more willing to say yes. Try it out!

I don't think delivering free content is a prerequisite for honesty. Honesty and profit can coexist. You just have to make sure you take care of your customer and deliver a product/service that meets their expectations (exceed their expectations if you can).

Free is ok too... but you need to charge money eventually

    Dude,

Before you just start hurling traffic at your site, I would highly suggest that you do some research first...

What are the players in your market doing to get traffic to their sites?

What are they doing to successfully convert the traffic?

Just because you have a website up doesn't guarantee any form of success. I see so many people on this forum who just throw up a list of traffic sources and say "go do it".

That's not the best plan of action because different products & different markets convert differently (I sound like Jan Brady...) but I think you get what I'm saying.

You don't want to go out and write 100 articles or make 100 videos or even 1 of each for that matter if the targeted visitors you are looking for don't become buyers from those traffic sources. And actually you don't want to do any work until you have done your homework!

What I usually do is test using Adwords. Even if you are promoting affiliate offers, you can get away with it for about 2 months before they slap you silly

But what I do is run about 1-2 weeks of traffic to get some good data and see if the conversions are at least minimal (1%). Then optimize until you get to the point that you want and are making money.

At this point you promptly shut off Google and move onto other traffic because once you know that the site converts, you are golden. Move from PPC to media buys so you can automate a consistent income.

Only at this point do you start to build out your "free traffic" methods. You would be best served outsourcing these functions unless you de-value your time.

    Good luck,

    Jason
