Making money with Squidoo lenses

Hi! I started working seriously on Squidoo lenses recently. My main purpose is to send traffic to my websites, but it's nice to be able to sell other things in the lenses at the same time, since they are mini-websites.

I created 4 lenses in a very short period of time now that I learned how to work on them, while I had delayed a century to create my first good lenses.

However I stopped creating them because I had a problem with the Lulu module, which I had to remove from all my lenses, and I saw that we basically depend on the Squidoo system.

Do you know anything about Squidoo lenses? Should I build many lenses and become a Giant Squid? Or do you think that this would be an uncertain adventure?

Thank you!

In my personal opinion, Squidoo is a good platform to make use of to drive traffic to your websites... However, you might want to be sure that your lenses stick closely with their terms of use (you can read more about it from the links below):

    Locked?!
    SquidSpam: Zero Tolerance
    SquidDon't!

By following the terms of use closely, it will prevent your Squidoo account being locked (and all your efforts being wasted).

I have made some good income from Squidoo in the past - Within my lens (where I put up money making modules), as well as promoting products/services as an affiliate...

So, personally, I feel that you should build your lenses and try become a Giant Squid (you need at least 50 Squidoo lenses [of high quality] before you can apply to be one).

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers

I am looking into using squidoo and I am wondering how you guy's drive traffic to your website...

Putting up good content and leaving a link to your website is OK?
Selling an eBook on your site is OK as long as you don't make a lens out of it?

      Any tips would be GREAT!

      Thanks

You mean driving traffic from your Squidoo lens to your website?

Yeah, the most effective way to do this is to put up good content and then at the end of it (or you can also sprinkle links to your website within the lens that you create, but make sure that you do not have more than 9 links to your website within a single lens)

Also, I think making a lens to sell an ebook (I assume you are promoting an ebook as an affiliate?) is OK - What you can do is to create a lens to review the ebook... But make sure that the category of the ebook that you review is not in the "Squidoo don'ts"...

        Hope this helps!

I make a little money from Squidoo every month, but I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of time with it. You are taking the risk of Squidoo pulling down your pages for any reason they want once you have everything up. I built my Squidoo lenses when I first started a few years ago, but I would never rely on Squidoo for any major income today.

I know a guy who had a web 2.0 page making $2,000 per month, but his competitors started flagging the page, and the site took down his web 2.0 property without any legitimate explanation.

When you build your primary source of income on web 2.0 platforms, you are at the mercy of the sites to keep your content up. They can take you down any time they want!

I strongly recommend buying your own domains and getting your own hosting. You will be much better off in the long run.

I have several Squidoo lenses that are PR4 to PR3. I get a little money through paypal but more importantly I get lots of referral traffic to my websites from Squidoo and nice juicy dofollow backlinks whenever I want to drop them.

So, I would recommend eventually going for giant squid status and use the resource to benefit your money sites.

Try Hubpages to me they are much better plus they allow you 2 affiliate links, Amazon ads, and Google adsense 3 ways to monetize every hub plus they rank very well in the serps. I have made some good money through them have been a member for a little over a year.

All around they are way more marketer friendly just make sure your hubs are unique and do your keyword research for your titles etc...

    Good luck!

Thanks for all the great responses...

I personally am just doing an eBook.

I have to research "Affiliate" but I think that's when people are paid a portion of the book to sell it themselves correct? I haven't been inclined to do this in my situation but who knows....

      Peace

Not just a Squidoo and you should consider using it with other web 2.0 sites to generate more traffics and backlinks to your sites, but don't forget to use their rss feeds and make sure link them all together so when you post something new it'll update all other sites that means more backlinks.

Thank you all for your answers!

I’m using Squidoo mainly to drive traffic to my websites. My main purpose is to sell my ebooks. However, Squidoo provides us a passive income as well. This is very helpful too.

The content of my lenses is very good, but I’m really afraid to put too much effort on creating them and then have to face problems like the one I had with the modules. I had to remove the Lulu module from 8 lenses and then put something else in its place… So, I was thinking that if I had to do so in 100 lenses this would be really painful…

Another problem is that Squidoo keeps changing its rules. When I built my second good lens I had posted many interesting articles about my topic, however I had to delete 10 articles because now Squidoo doesn’t allow the same link in a lens more than 10 times.

I’m afraid to create 100 lenses and then have to make changes on them all the time, or have technical problems with them, etc.

However, if it is basically safe, Squidoo is a wonderful way to spread my links online, besides promoting other products.

I like Squidoo because I have the possibility to promote my work through many different ways. There are many different applications for what I sell, so the Squidoo lenses are ideal for showing to the public all the available options.

I was too enthusiastic with the creation of my lenses when I had this problem with the Lulu module…

I lost 4 blogspot blogs in 2009 because they were infected by malware when a hacker got my passwords, and Blogger never cared about helping me recuperate them.

I saw that when you use free platforms, you cannot protect your creations. If you’ll lose them for one reason or another, nobody cares.

This is why I immediately gave up spending my time in the creation of Squidoo lenses after facing the problem with the modules. Three of my lenses disappeared because of this problem and until the reason was finally discovered, I could not edit any of my lenses.

This was a very strange problem…

All my enthusiasm disappeared at once. I was hoping to be encouraged here if I would see that many people are doing well with their Squidoo lenses… without facing any technical problems.
