Does no one want this?

Hi,

I recently posted a classified ad on the site for a Social Network website script, based in Drupal. Its very full, customizable and even has a demo feature:
Social Networking Website | connecting people

I started the selling price at $60... which is incredibly low considering how long it takes to recreate this. And, I have had over 100 views but no bites and only one comment.

I am wondering if I am barking up the wrong tree, or maybe I just didn't write good enough copy?

The concept is that the buyers can make their own site, resell the script, install sites for other people (I charge $500), modify the code, offer a hosted solution and a few other options... lots of ways to make money.

I see people on RAC and CL looking for social networks all the time (and I have worked with the ones I find), so I am wondering why this hasn't flown off the shelf?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?

You probably need to emphasize why someone should buy it when CMS such as Droopal, PHPnuke, and Joomla are free.

Maybe figure out how someone can either save time or make money easily by using your script, and emphasize that in your copy.

Security and ease of use are good selling points as well.

    Good luck!

No offense, but the site isn't very visually appealing. If you skin it or change it to a nicer theme that might help out a lot. Add something to it to give your design more character. Maybe add some gibberish text and add pictures/videos to give the demo site more flair.

It also doesn't look much like a social networking site, it looks more like a CMS with a blog and forum integrated.

I ran a social networking script as a test on one of my domains and just by looking at it you can see the script was made for social networking. iNewJersey.net Jersey's Own Community It's the default version, so this is completely unmodified. The default theme is visually appealing and you can tell what the site is for.

Drupal is great, but I did get a comment from someone that it may be too complex for alot of users... Hmmm...

Would it be better to offer a "simplified" version, even if its less powerful?

Thanks for the feedback on the reasons to buy an opensource distro... obviously the time factor needs to be emphasized, but I never mentioned security. Thats a huge reason

Here's your competition. And it's free (ad-supported...$39/yr to remove ads).

Dolphin :: Smart Community Builder :: Free Software

Compare and ask yourself, "Why would I pay $60 when this things works out of the box?"

There's also Ning. Create your own social network for anything. as well although it's a hosted solution.

Personally, I've used Drupal and had a terrible experience. Their terminolgy makes it difficult to simply create categories. (aka Nodes, Vocabulary, etc). Drupal is definitely not user friendly, imho. That may be impacting sales. In the time I've been here, I rarely see Drupal posts.

Dolphin is amazing, BUT you can only run it on a dedicated server. It doesn't work on a shared server.

hi there... I looked at your site and I think you should work on those adwords. They tend to dominate the whole site probably because of the contrast in colors. That's definitely not what you want...

    Thanks for the feedback!

My thought was to make the demo site barebones... but then it does make it tough to get an idea of how things work... I will add some sample content and flesh things out a bit.

The theme can easily be changed, so I went with a very basic one for simplicity's sake.

Overall, I am hearing that the immediate impact/view is critical, versus the inherent features. Sinc eI know what all it can do, I suppose I sometimes forget that others can't see it all...

Theres alot more visible by logging into the admin, but if someone doesn't see enough to log in, then they can't see more there.

As for those who don't care for Drupal - any more reasons why? Is it simply the complexity?

Droopal is a very powerful CMS- if your a "coder".

But for everyday users, it's too high a learning curve.

      Security holes don't help either.

Far larger support network for Joomla and customization is easier.

Kind of like Zencart in my opinion, powerful yet bloated and too complicated for most everyday users.

      Best!
