StatCounter Political Ads

Obviously, it's their service and their right to put whatever ads they want on their pages, but when I logged in to check my stats today, I noticed that they had replaced all of their normal google adsense placements with "Yes on Prop 8" banners.

Like I said, it's their site and their business, but it just struck me as slightly...I don't know...unprofessional? I just want to check my stats, and if I see ads on the page about SEO or stat tracking or traffic generation, that makes sense. Sometimes they're even really useful. But to go check my stats and see political banners felt jarring.

I thought about whether I would feel the same way if it were banners for a position I support, and I just don't know.

What do you all think?

I'm in the UK, so I assume the ads are targeted as I didn't see them.

    Are they definitely not Adsense?

The ads aren't targeted, and they definitely aren't adsense.

Sorry, that's me assuming everyone's from California and knows what Prop 8 is.

It's a Proposition to define marriage as strictly between a man and a woman - which, whether you agree with that or not, is still pretty far afield from the subject of stat tracking.

Is anyone outside CA seeing those ads?

Don't know - I guess I could try with a proxy. Other than that, I don't have a way to tell.

      Anybody?
