Ways to Promote Your Facebook Fan Page & Get More Followers

  • Linking from the main website (if you have a decent site/brand this is the main way to develop a fan page in my opinion)
  • Competitions (join to get something - incentivizing 'likes')
  • Cross Competitions (partner with someone who has a big following - maybe giveaway a product if they follow you and your partner - there's software that does this).
  • Cross promote on Twitter
  • Make sure fan page is engaging so that people comment and 'like' your posts, which then puts your fan page in front of more Facebook users.
  • You can advertise a fan page through Facebook but I have not tried this yet
  • Promote the FB fan page to your email list.

Do you have any?

Im looking to start my fan page as I want to keep my personal page out of my biz (even though they kinda go hand in hand).....Just going to start to build it out and release it on 9-1. Mostly what I was planning to do was just promote it via my main webpage, twitter and tell others from my personal page who share the same niche to start to follow the fan page.....would love to hear more info

Create a slick looking fan page tab. You can make this tab the default landing page for non-fans. My tactic which has been successful for several clients:

Create a landing page with videos, imagery or powerful testimonials. Then give them an incentive to become a fan or (depending on your main objective) create an email capture. You can motivate users to like the page by hiding content. Prospective fans can only see this if they click like. Give them something valuable (whilst incurring 0 cost to yourself) to discover like an instructional video, free giveaway or great advice. The FBML code is pretty long winded, so if you don't know HTML then you may struggle.

Google "Facebook fan page hidden content".

      Hope that helps.

I don't see an option to do this anymore. Used to be under Settings (it would show a drop-down list of which tab you want to be your landing page) but I dont' see it anywhere now. Am I wrong?

I wonder what the default landing page is now if we can't select one. Is it Info?

Go to 'Wall Settings' when you click on edit page. It's still there under 'Default landing tab for everyone else'. However you had me worried for a minute, because I know Facebook are changing their fan pages. All tabs will have the profile image and left sidebar on them (currently they are blank), making the width 520px instead of the like 600+... Which is going to cause a massive hassle for all the custom pages I designed. Bluh!

Although Facebook did say this would come into place on the 23rd, and I haven't seen it anywhere yet...

I forgot about this one, I do this too.

If you don't have a bribe a landing page is still important.

Search for Shoemoney and Mashable on Facebook as good examples.

A perfect example of just what you can do with fan pages is Red Bull - Welcome to Facebook absolutely incredible.

Or M10 fitness (created by yours truly) Welcome to Facebook

Admittedly it's no redbull... but there's still a lot you can do with pages.

Primarily creating and sharing great content. Great content encourages people and fans alike to like and comment and spread/share this content with their friends, thus showing up in their feeds and growing organically.

Great info on this thread. I believe that Facebook is a great way to brand your business through advertising.

I need to create a custom tab on my company's Fan Page. I saw a great video on YouTube last week for creating such a page.

Yes. Now the format is just a little different than it was before.

    Great thread. Thanks for posting!

I have had great results using a FB fan page to promote my business. I did a custom tab (join us) with an Aweber sign up form on there.
I'm not going to lie, it took me awhile how to figure it out, but now I have it down from here on.
I used Kompozer to make my page, added my Aweber sign up form code to that, then copied & pasted all the code in a FMBL box for my custom tab. When they sign up for my list, they are directed to another custom "thank you " tab that I made also.

I have also been using FB ads to promote/get sign ups & that has been going well too. I am going to have an info product about how I did all of this, but I am new here & do not want to shove my stuff down people's throats!

I am no expert, but if you have any questions I can try to help

        Hi Barbara,

Glad to hear you're having so much success with Facebook. I'm interested to hear your take on Facebook ads as I've never used them before. Are they a cost effective way of advertising your page? Is the conversion to fan rate high?

I've designed plenty of tabs and advertised pages in all sorts of ways, I just haven't used FB ads yet. I'm definitely considering them for my company's page.

          Hi Plish -

FB ads took the intimidation factor out of PPC advertising for me. The response rate is a completely different animal than Adwords.

You have a lower percentage of clicks to impressions, but those clicks are HIGHLY targeted. The thing with FB ads is that you want to keep the traffic on FB - (send to a sign up tab or main page on your fan page) instead of sending to an external webpage - the response is way better.

If you have a free offer of some sort, conversions are pretty good. The exposure I gain from having ads out there is almost as good as having someone click on the ad! I think it's well worth it. You can set a low daily limit so you don't overspend, and the clicks are cheaper than Adwords. There is such a thing as "ad fatigue" though - you have to keep things fresh

Hopefully I answered your questions ~

This is a great idea! Capturing emails in FB and converting them / moving them into a sales funnel can be an excellent way to generate long term cash!

Hi Guys I was wondering if I could get peoples points of view on the whole competitions thing on FB. I was going to give away a prize for people getting 'x' amount of friends to like my fanpage but I looked at FB's Terms and conditions and its expressly forbidden unless you have written permission, yet heaps of people are doing it.

Is self promotion through a competition banned or not?

    Thanks,

I guess a lot of times the customised FBML tab is the one that put people off from setting up a professional looking FB page. One can think of outsourcing it.

    1. Head to fiverr.com and buy some invites (I got 900 plus fans for 2 fanpages in a week for $15 and still growing) you can try Twitter services on fiverr as well.

    2. Put the fan page link in your article resource box and submit the articles to hell and back (I used the free version of Brad Callen's article submitter)

even better, interview the fiverr providers and find out what kind of followers they have (some guy I interviewed had mainly video gamer followers) and build the fan page about that niche, then buy their invites.

    Sky is the limit!
