What are the best settings for streaming video hosted by Amazon S3?

I have instructional videos I'll be uploading to Amazon S3 that will be streamed on a membership website and was wondering what the best settings I should use for my videos? If it matters, I'll be using Easy Video Player and users will be able to download the videos.

Just wondering what the best compromise is between making the videos look good and also so I'm not spending a fortune for S3 storage and bandwidth when members view the videos?

These are my editors default settings but there are many other choices I can make...

Preset: Web - High (H.264 video encoding at High Quality. AAC stereo audio at 96 kbits/seconds.

Dimensions: Scale by 50% to 840 X 526

Thank you very much.

with Easy Video Player are you able to output in a certain scale, say you want your videos to be 900*450 px?

Regarding your qs. I am about to do the same, my view is that the cost is low though on AWS so give good quality

What program are you using to encode your videos? Here's the settings I use (an example of these settings can be seen in my sig):

I create .mp4 files using the H.264 format, the data rate set to 1500 kbits/sec, although I do sometimes set the data rate to 2000 (smoother looking fades, larger file size though), if it's for Youtube, I export the resolution at 1280x720. If it's for our own site, I export it at 600x360. The frame rate is 30 frames per second.

Remember to pick your own screen resolutions, we are using HD footage so that's why we export at 1280x720 or 600x360 respectively. But why 600x360? We use this resolution because our final video (the video on the site) is actually going to be smaller than that (450x253). You always want your video file to be a larger resolution than your final video (the one on the site).

With the settings mentioned above, we are getting a high def video that's 4 minutes, 41 seconds long at 72MB.

We use Mike Stewart's S3 Media Player to upload our videos and have no complaints so far.

Feel free to ask me more questions if you have them.

My videos won't be used on Youtube or any video sharing sites. These videos will be hosted on Amazon S3 for a paid membership site. Users will have the choice to view them full-screen and also to download them.

I'm using Screenflow (Its similar to Camtasia for the Mac) for my screen capture videos and its default settings are like this...

Preset: Web - High (H.264 video encoding at High Quality. AAC stereo audio at 96 kbits/seconds.

          Dimensions: Scale by 50% to 840 X 526

Like I said at the beginning, I need to find the best compromise between decent quality viewing (full screen too), quick loading, and also so I'm not paying unnecessarily high costs with Amazon S3. One other thing, I'm using Easy Video Player.

          Thanks
          Steve

You can still use the settings I gave you with EZS3. With those settings, you get a very clean full screen video with a fairly small file size. Basically with video, you have two choices and can only pick one:

Great looking full screen video or small file size so it's cheap.

And I know you understand that since you are looking for the best compromise. Now, are your videos a talking head or a lot of fast motion? Depending on what your video is showing, motion can effect how good your video looks. The faster the motion, the higher bitrate you're going to need. Unfortunately, with video, there is no one size fits all setting. You're going to need to tweak your settings until you find one that you like. I see you're exporting with a 'web' feature, can you change any options within that 'web' setting?
