I am talking about the ctrl+printscreen button

I was unaware I even had a print screen button until yesterday

So I try to use the feature by pressing ctrl+prntscreen combination to do a screen capture but nothing happens

does it store in a file somewhere what am I missing here.

The image is copied to your clipboard. To use it, open your graphics program of choice, even Paint will work, and paste the screen shot.

From there, you can do what you wish, as long as you take normal consideration for copyright and such...

    Nicholas,

Just use the prntscrn button and paste the capture in Word. Let me know if it doesn't work.

PS: Attached is the screenshot of your post I took using the prntscrn button.

If you happen to have Vista, a lot of people don't know there is a handy Snipping Tool hidden away in the programs/accessories folder.

The Snipping Tool lets you select a specific area of the screen to capture, then you can literally write on the image with a build in pen and eraser.

When you are done it will ask you to save your work.

      I hope this helps someone.

Did not know this ... thanks for sharing ... this did help me and I am sure with this I will save a lot of time that I would usually spend cropping the images ...

Yes, that little Snipping tool in VISTA is awesome....
You can take screenshot, you can highlight, edit, crop, point...
and email the final shot instantly to your buddy right from one window
        aka Snipping Tool :-)

That is really helpful, thank you! Been using Vista for almost a year and
        I had no clue.

I use both. The disadvantage I find with the snipping tool is when you want a screen shot that includes a dropdown menu in, for example, Word. As soon as you open up the snipping tool, the dropdown menu goes. Then you have to use prt scrn.

TIP, pressing ALT+PRTSCR will only capture the active dialog box.

For WinXP users, I used to use this free tool before I moved over to snagit.
