I thought the birth of audio and video on the web, would be awesome. I was half right. On one hand, it provides new media for reaching audiences in new ways. On the other hand, it gives some of the best minds in the business a pathetic excuse to just be plain lazy. Audio is great because it allows you to multi-task. You can get information while riding in your car or play it in the background while you're working on other things. For this reason it's a perfect addition to good written material.

Audio is great because it allows you to multi-task. You can get information while riding in your car or play it in the background while you're working on other things. For this reason it's a perfect addition to good written material.
However, as a stand alone product for people really using the material it sucks. It provides no way to easily refer back to material or go through material step-by-step while you're actually taking action.
Video also has good and bad points. When used for illustration purposes it's awesome. If a picture is worth a thousand words, video is worth millions. Being able to see someone actually doing what they're teaching you to do is priceless. However, it's drawback is the same as audio. Trying to go back and pick details out of a hour-long recorded seminar is mind numbing, and finding those details can be near impossible.
I wish I could go to every guru/author/product creator who puts out a package consisting solely of audio or video and smack him/her in the side of the head. INCLUDE A PDF, JACKASS!
The reason they don't is usually painfully clear, laziness. They're just too lazy to bother with writing and editing. But if someone has gone to the trouble to put together 6 hours of comprehensive, well-organized video material, how hard can it really be to spend an extra couple of hours to reformat their notes/script into a pdf? It's just pathetic really.
Okay, I'm down off my soapbox. Thoughts? Comments?
