What Else Are You Not Telling Me?

If I make a video and I need to zoom in on a particular area, I always had to do it in the 'editing' phase. A real pain in the neck and one of the reasons I don't like making videos is because of having to fiddle about with them afterwards.

Then I watched a video where someone said you could zoom in just by using the scroll wheel on your mouse. Tried it but didn't work with my mouse! (and yes, I checked my mouse settings, lol, but the option wasn't there).

So off I went and bought a better mouse. Not a huge deal but still I could have saved a tenner if it had been pointed out to me that all I needed to do was hold down the control button while scrolling.

Strange because I've just answered another post and talked about the fact that often experienced IM'ers take some stuff for granted and just expect everyone else will know about it. I didn't. So I'm willing to bet there's a lot of others out there who don't.

Anyway, if you want to zoom in while you're recording instead of have to fiddle about editing after you've made the video, just hit control and scroll with the mouse wheel. And yes, this works even if the mouse doesn't have the option of using the scroll wheel to zoom in - I went back and tried it with the old one.

Now I'm wondering just what else is so simple that nobody has bothered to mention it?

    • Wow Gene, my ghast is flabbered. Meghan, this is exactly my point. I don't think folks are doing this deliberately but you forget how little you knew when you first started and the really simple stuff isn't really simple at all.

  • San, it did not work out for you because you are a Brit... LOL

Great tip, and I am certain there is a lot of things that we all miss like that...

    • Lol, you could be right petal. Or maybe it was because as well as not telling me, nobody bothered telling my mouse either. :p
  • Thanks for the tip, I'm a big fan of using keyboard short cuts.

    • You're welcome.

I'm a big fan of using any shortcuts, as long as I know about them.
  • Hahahaha I know that feeling - Today I found out how layers work in photoshop!
