Brendon, it's best to let the market decide what product you create.

Some do this by polling their list with choices on what people would most like to learn next.

Some do this by analyzing FAQ's for problems people need solving.

Some do this by promoting a bunch of affiliate products, then 'knocking off' the one that sells the best.

    Many ways.

It's really good that you're thinking along the lines of product creation -- so many miss out on this most excellent revenue source.

    Cheers!

Browsing forums in your niche and finding problems experienced in the niche can be a good start. Just search for "How To" "How do I" "Help" etc. I made some free software to do this for the warrior forum. Here's a link to the thread with the free tool:

Of course this is only going to benefit you if your target market is Internet Marketers, if that is the case then you might get some good ideas.

      All the best Rob
Wow that looks like an excellent program, ill be sure to give it a try.

One the best trainings you can get on product creation is actually free from Eben Pagan, I strongly recommend you go through all the videos here:

    GURU BluePrint Blog

Once you've gone through Eben Pagan's videos you won't fall into the trap most people do, and create products people don't want or probably won't buy.

The concept of selling solutions rather than suggestions which he explains in depth is critical if you want to succeed.

Remember it isn't really about the product... its about your prospect, and their problem. As oneplusone quotes Eben, it's about solutions. Your product is yet another thing standing between the prospects current situation and their desired situation (or dream). So when you're making the product keep that in mind.

I have seen many internet info products, even some from the 'gurus', make this mistake by trying to deliver way too much. i.e. 16 hours of video, 12 hours of video and 200 pages of written manuals is far too much to teach you how to setup drive traffic, convert them into leads, and then market to them...

instead of filling up the package, make the less amount of content a benefit. e.g. "you'll be able to start earning money online, after you read my 50 page book" sound much easier to do than "it will take you at least 28 hours of audio and video, before you actually get to do any real business"

Don't mistake what I am suggesting as, "less content is better", no in my opinion you should stay as concise and to the point as possible.

As for product ideas, forums, blogs, web 2.0 websites, or generally anywhere where the people in your market communicate with each other, is the best place for research. I think you find the reports in my free WSO (see my sig) very beneficial, since in them I discuss similar issues faced by many online businesses and entrepreneurs. Good luck!

I have just started working in a start-up where we are trying to create a new product category; but for now we are launching only in India. The service creates a new category in itself; the idea is to go beyond paperless offices and take the concept to people's home.

Whereas the concept of paperless office is just to save cost and paper, we will also be handling physical documents and protect them against fire, theft, memory loss or even kids! We pick up the documents from the given address, scan them with professional scanners (all the while being assured that even the person who scans cannot have a look at it), store them online and warehouse them physically.

These documents will initially be collected through the end user, and then will start being taken from sources. Once online, you can access them anytime and anywhere, with the ease of single view and search. If you need them at your doorstep for any reason, we will get it delivered there and then. You can have a look at Facebook (the community is called "Clip to Click: powered by kleeto") and provide your feedback. We shall be happy to hear from you.

Good point Brendon, and the first thing is to find something that you´re passionate about, so that you can literally stuff this muffin with great content.

Secondly, think about your targeted market and how you are going to market it later on.

Be creative, watch out for strategies that are working and also have a look on what top people are doing, and look for advantages.

    All the best,

    Gerald

Use CB engine and look at all the popular products. Then target the same niches. Ride on the back of big launches. Coulsd work well if you can create a quality product with a lower price point
