I was thinking tonight after reading some warm responses to one of my posts about a real experience of mine, a lesson learned. It's amazing the difference it makes when you speak from the heart--whether it's about a lesson learned, a struggle being experienced, a real desire to offer help/service, a genuine joy/triumph...people know. Things resonate more when spoken from the heart. One of my mentors has said that people don't buy your business, they buy you. This is seen in day-to-day interactions with those around you. Even small ways you reach out and build relationship greatly enhances a person's tendency to trust what you say, to let their guard down, to open up their mind.

Be real with people. Genuinely care about their lives, their success. Sometimes your business isn't right for them. And it should be ok with us to let that person go find what would suit them better.

    Wow great post,

I can't agree with you more afitzwater, I have always struggled in copywriting and I've read many ebooks, books, watched videos, audios ... you name it I tried. All this to attempt to improve my skills in writing.

Finally one day my mentor told me to simply write a sales page just like if I were trying to convince a friend to buy a "deal". He said you care about your friend so you want the best for him or her ... what ever comes to mind put it in words.

"Just spit it out, let them have it!" - He said.

I finished writing that page in less then 20 minutes and I had some of the best results ever! So that's my own little trick when it comes to writing or just talking now. I'm glad you shared this with the community it brought back some good memories for me at least!

    Thank You!

    Regards,

    Hey Alex,

That's a very insightful observation about speaking from the heart. I'm going to ponder that over the next few days. Very good stuff.

      Amy,

You have hit on one of the seeds for a million dollar business creation and explosive growth, which is authentic communication.

This is highly overlooked and too little discussed in business and marketing circles in my opinion.

Communication and conversation are THE vehicle for business building no matter what business one is in. The media could be anything - print, web, audio, video...it matters not.

What matters is that when communication is authentic and related to what you stand for on behalf of the customer (not of yourself), amazing things happen. And they happen FAST.

      Great post Amy.

I agree with you 100%. Speaking from the heart is one of the soft skills each one of us has to learn to be successful. Our prospects will recognize honest writing. It is like a genuine smile. Everyone will recognize a real smile when he sees one.

Absolutely, even text on a screen when spoken with genuine intention and sincerity can be felt. There's such a lack of it these days that to even capture a small piece of it, is refreshing.

      Amy,

      Thank you!

I must say that I really enjoyed this post. You seem to have a real grasp on the importance of relationships, not only in your personal life but also in the business world.

You also, though subtly, bring up a point about listening to people and discovering what their needs and goals are. Yes, sometimes you have to let them go but don't forget them. In many instances, it's just not the right time for them to be a part of your business.

Amy, you are so right and echoing my words exactly. There is no need for hype and overstatements if people trust you and you only earn their trust through sincerity.

It is interesting that most of the responses above are from relatively new warriors, as you are yourself. So this is a good example of how people should be marketing instead of trying to pull the pull the wool over someone's eyes (Aussie term for fooling them) so as to grab their money and run.

    God bless

True, indeed! There's nothing better than being true to others, especially to yourself. Even if most people here don't know each other personally, they can sense whether or not your posts are sincere and the responses can sometimes be overwhelming.

Interesting how sometimes we make life (and marketing) a lot harder than it has to be. Being real is not that hard, and it's the right thing to do. People exhaust themselves trying to be someone they are not.
