How can I check if someone is really doing backlinks for me?

I'm thinking of outsourcing some backlink submission stuff - social bookmarking, mainly...

How would I be able to tell that my stuff really is getting bookmarked, without going to dozens of sites individually to check?

    Hi Dana,

You can use yahoo Site Explorer

    Example:

You get them to submit report on where they posted your back links and they can even sent screen shots of the posting.

I know its a lot f work but if you even just do a few per day it look more natural to searh engines that have 100's done per day.

    goto Yahoo.com

In the search bar type in link:http://www.yoursite.com

This will bring up the links that yahoo has that goto your site.

I always ask for a report, and then check myself.

If your backlinks are not indexed, then you won't know unless they're
    manually checked.

If you don't want to do it, outsource the verification to someone you
trust. I would only outsource the actual backlinking to someone who
voluntarily provides a report on backlink location.

If you're outsourcing a backlink building service, then asking for a report is a must. Since you're already paying up for the submission, they better as well submit some proof of the job done which normally comes in a form of the report containing the URLs of pages where your link has been submitted either in the form of a social bookmark, article, blog comment, etc...

Actually it makes sense to only have the person do a dozen or so a day, and that amount I could check. I'd also be writing articles for article directories and maybe using SEO linkvine or something similar; I'm just looking for a variety of links, and I want to outsource some of it. I'm open for other suggestions.

    Dana,

I recommend you get a variety of backlinks such as directories (not only
article), blog posts (can outsource), bookmarks, and even links of the kind
    that Angela and others provide.

The reason for the cafeteria approach is that it looks natural. Also, don't
worry about dofollow/nofollow because the search engines know not all
links will be only dofollow. Just in case your jealous competition checks
and decides to rat you out. Also, along the same line of thinking, don't
be concerned about only getting high PR links because, again, it really
    doesn't look natural.

That's a recommended approach and perhaps others may disagree for
    whatever reason.

It's easy to find third parties who will do all of the above for you.

I agree, pursuing a variety of types of backlinks seems to make the most sense because it looks more natural. Also you never know when Google will decide that one class of backlinks isn't valuable any more, so variety is key.

Hi Dana_W. I agree.. You should ask for a report. Also, make sure that they post your links to "do follow" sites to make sure that visitors will actually be directed to your website.
