Best "word of mouth" sites to bring in traffic?

I'm looking for some good "word of mouth" / "pay to __" type sites to help bring in traffic. I'd like a few good ones that cover more than just pay to blog etc since they seem to favor the bloggers more. Is there anything like this that offer services for sites like Facebook? Are there any good wso's that focus on this type of thing?

    If you need viral traffic, write unique and valuable contents. I'm pretty sure people will spread the words for you for free. Or you can write some free ebooks with your sites in it. Give it away and it can do wonder.

    Quality content is the way to get traffic. Focus on truly providing value and solving problems and it will be paid forward.

    Create high quality content that presells your visitor. No auto blog nonsense... just give the reader and the search engine what they want!

    Content does two things. Firstly it brings traffic. Secondly it PREsells your visitor on your offer.



    THEN you monetize. Not only will you get more "sticky" traffic by writing good content but you will also warm up your readers and they naturally turn into a warm ready to buy prospect.

    Additionally, you should provide a good services (depends on what kinda products or any services that you can offer)so that the visitors will tell it to their friends and the viral marketing will come up.

    I agree.. You can drive a lot of traffic to your site but if your contents are not interesting or helpful enough, it won't really make much of a difference. Aim for returning visitors to your site and not just a one time visit.

      Thanks for the replies. I agree, quality content is a must but I was really hoping I'd get some feedback on my original questions as I'd like to tap into that type of advertising.

      Does anyone have any recommendations for legit, well known word of mouth / "pay to" sites other than social spark (as a buyer, not a promoter)?

      Also, are there any good wso's or articles that are up to date on current strategies for promoting through Facebook and Twitter?

    Have you tried StumbleUpon ads? It is only about 5 cents a click and it can be a good way to get a surge of traffic to a well designed piece of content. The quality of traffic is low becasue SU users often just click the "Stumble" button right after landing on your page.

    My experience has been that about 10% of the Stumble paid traffic will stick around and read other posts if you are advertising a good post to begin with.

    Good question! I think quality content of many articles will bring the most quality traffic to your site. Other than posting on famous blogger with ton of audience I don't think you can do "word of mouth" strategy anywhere else other than yourself. Network!

    I don't feel that I'm good enough to write articles. How much would it cost approximately to outsource that and get some quality articles done?

    I'm trying to look for effective ways to pay people to talk about my site primarily through Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites. Has anyone tried doing this before? If you can pay people to post on their blogs, surely there must be something similar here?

      You're mindset is concentrating on articles, if I understand you correctly. If you want really good word of mouth advertising, think video. Set up a YouTube business account, make an interesting video, with links to your website, and if you've done a good job, you can count on a lot of traffic.

      The beauty of this is you can outsource everything, although you certainly can do it yourself at a relatively low cost. There are a lot of free tutorials out there that can walk you through the steps.

        Actually, I'm pretty open minded when it comes to marketing since I'm new to this. I always thought video's were a great way to market something but that it would cost a lot even if I outsouced it. Do you have any experience with this? I only ask because I'm curious about the price. Also, what is the difference between a normal and business account on You Tube?

        This might be a silly question, but wouldn't promoting something as a business be less effective than the average joe that promotes something cool and unique and attains cult status when their video goes viral?

      I agree with this, I see a lot of people posting link on twitter and facebook. As for twitter, it depends on how much your message or advertisement being retweeted by others.

          Traffic depends a lot on the content. You cannot get traffic by word of mouth unless it's of general interest/controversial.

    You say you want "word of mouth" but then talk about paying to get it. That's a bit of a conflict there which is why people are recommending you focus on your content instead. If you just want to buy traffic then AdWords will do just fine.

    But to attract a swarm of new traffic to your site you have to publish quality content. That can be text, photos or video content.

    The size of the swarm you attract will depend on the quality of your content and how much of it you publish. The bigger the swarm you need, the more of both quality and quantity you need to publish.

    But here's the thing. Social media can (and does) drive huge amounts of traffic. However it generally takes time for the site to grow into that traffic. Sure there are plenty of cases where people got tons of traffic on day one from social media. But that's not the usual way it happens.

    Even buying ads on Facebook, StumbleUpon, etc. will produce much bigger results with high quality content.

      Do you consider "viral traffic" when you rank high in the search engines? SEO might be your answer.

      Other than that, I believe that Facebook is probably the most viral website.
