This Is A Big Key To List Success

I like to test things in my AR follow-up sequence, and an interesting result has emerged that I want to share. It's not really a surprise, but it might help some of you who are newer to list building/monetizing.

OK, so you get someone on your list initially by giving away something or from your blog, etc., right? One of the keys to getting a higher conversion rate from then on is to keep the info and offers you send to your list members closely related to whatever got them to sign up in the first place. So far, so good.

But here's a little twist that will jack up your sales even more...

Combine a freebie and something you sell in one of your emails. The trick is to pick a freebie that naturally plays into what you're selling. What I did was offer a package of free PLR articles. That was the focus in the email subject and the bulk of the email body. So it got a high open rate, right? The list perceived it as me sending them another cool freebie they could actually use! That equals a lot of people opening that email.

Once they're reading it, I move into how they could - for example - use the PLR articles I just gave them to make some money using - you guessed it! - the paid product I also sell.

The conversion rate is wicked high!

Test this yourself. It's not hard. Just find some angle to present a freebie to your list. Make sure it ties in closely with something you sell, and just marry the two up. Works like a charm!

Dang! I guess I shouldn't have given my IM list a free colon cleanser product. They do seem more relaxed...

Live and learn, live and learn.

... I guess that leads into keeping your lists tightly segregated so that you know exactly (well there abouts) what those subscribers are interested in.

Versus chucking them all on the same Autoresponder list.

    Very nice

Also brings the law of reciprocation into play. You give them something and they feel the need to reciprocate

      Simon,

That's a great way to think of this! I never even considered it that way, but that's exactly what I kind of stumbled into here. I figured it was the closeness of the offers and how one kind of naturally leads into the other, but now that you mention this, I think it might be even more about how it plays on the list member's sense of giving back after just having gotten something nice for free. Excellent! You gave me something else to think about!

      Thanks,
      John

John, you rock! You put a great (major) twist on my 'overwhelming offer' philosophy to convert freebie seekers into buyers. Once they walk through that gate they'll be more likely to buy the next time.

Good show, especially since you seem to have did it without input from your pet monkey.

I just wanted to add one thing...It also helps if you make sure you have a photo of Johns bald shiny head, and send each subscriber a copy telling them if they rub it constantly for 10 minutes and chant in another language, they can have the life of their dreams! Other than that, great post John!
