Here's How I Won a Paypal Chargeback Dispute...

I received an email from Paypal this morning, "We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully disputed chargeback case #PP-XXX-XXX-XXX. The buyer's card issuer has decided in your favor and within seven days you will receive reimbursement for $27.00 USD."

This person bought a digital product from me (paid via paypal) and then disputed the charge through their credit card. Of course "we" know that we can not randomly charge someone's credit card so at first I was unsure how to fight this.

Then as "dumb luck" (or smart thinking) would have it, I checked my Aweber account. Guess what? Exactly one minute after the purchase a person with the same exact name double-opted into my autoresponder. Got 'em!

Sent aweber screen shots of the double opt-in and my explanation to paypal and now, 5 months later, I will be reimbursed.

The charge was for $27 and the principle was worth my efforts which seriously took only a couple of minutes of my time.

So next time someone disputes a charge, make sure to check your autoresponder to see if this same person signed up.

    I have done the same thing and did not win the dispute. I've also sent them multiple log records with the same IP address accessing protected content and even help desk tickets from the same person.

    Chargebacks are always a hit or miss thing...depends who reviews the case.

    Winning chargebacks is easy, just escalate to a claim and show proof.

    The problem I have is people paying with hacked Paypal accounts, and then the real owners claiming unauthorized access... no matter how much proof you send in, Paypal will 100% of the time rule with the other party.

    Providing evidence is good, but the bottom line is that's it's the credit card company's decision, and they can go either way. I've won and lost as a buyer and seller.

    No, a chargeback can't be escalated. It's already at the level of a claim, actually even higher since the decision is out of PayPal's hands.

    What would you think if a seller sold a expensive high quality seo and article submission service that offered complete detailed documentation of all tasks performed and then upon delivery of proof simply stated that he could not provide that documentation and simply said "I can not do that as it will put all are clients at risk" Not looking to call anyone out just want an unbiased decision. Would this be grounds for a chargeback?

      if the seller offers a refund, ask for the refund - you certainly qualify for one as the item you bought was significantly different from what you thought you were getting.
      If your refund isn't processed, then go the chargeback route.

    Some time paypal can be an ass, one time they froze my account simply working hard at making some sales online.
