The Money or The List? Which One Do You Give More Importance?

Recently I learned a lesson the hard way, I promote a couple of Clickbank products which claimed to be THE ultimate solution for traffic on autopilot (some of you will immediately knows which one I'm talking about).

The sales letter was hyped but easy to hook those desperate newbies and I greedely promote them all with hard sell campaigns and none of these products lives by their claims resulting on some crappy stuff that nobody wants...

The result of these campaigns were a few sales and a lot of unsubscribes.

I really didn't pay attention to the golden rule, my subscribers deserve the best and has to be the most important for me, even more important than some easy sales.

I think the trust has been damage and its going to be hard to earn it back again. And I don't know how to do it.

I Hope you can take this on account at the moment to choose your promotions.

    Neodarth,
Thanks for sharing that with us. It is an expensive lesson you just had and it is definitely worth sharing.

One of the first things in relationship repair, whether in mass or one-on-one, is to admit to the other person that you realize that there is a problem. Let them know that despite what that last mailing may appear to be, you still have their best interests at heart.

A strong committment to never let this occur again followed with a peace offering would go a long way at solidifying your relationship with the rest of those who have not left you.

I suggest, if at all possible, that you conduct a free webinar for you list only on whatever topic means the most to them. This will give you a chance to express your sincerety to them, to show that you really care.

    Just a suggestion.

Good luck and thanks for sharing,
    Scott Voss

    Definitely the List my friend.

It's nice to see that you've shared this with everyone, it is truly an expensive lesson learnt.

Protecting the interests of your subscribers and making sure they get products that are reliable and high quality is crucial to your IM career.

Don't worry about it for now, don't promote anything for a while, and when you do, make sure you have warmed up your list with a significant amount of good quality content / resources before-hand.

    Cheers,
    Ange

Well, here's the upside. Only about 10% of your list probably opened the email and fortunately for you, even fewer bothered to order anything. SOOO, just go along and send a few useful emails and get back on the promo. train, this time with a quality product.

I like to check out review sections on this forum and others before promoting ANY product.

You can NEVER tell how good a product is until then.

I would value the list over the money any day. If you lose your list then you lose your source of money - keep them happy, keep the list focused, and don't promote rubbish. If something takes well to your list then plug it again, but if you get some unsubscriptions, or less opens than normal etc then back off a bit and don't keep plugging it.

I think this is why segmenting is important if possible. Probably you had some people on your list who are interested in these traffic generation tools to some extent, but probably more people who signed up for other reasons and hence this was sort of spam to them.

Always try to make sure it is a RELEVANT offer or mail to your list every time.

That's what I did and made me realize why the unsubscribe rate went up.

Seriously guys This past month was an aweful month for 'sniper launch' and 'early bird' promos (I still can smell the s*** in the air)

I wonder how many unsubscribers got those gurus that promoted the same product as I did.

Depends on what type of business you are trying to run. If it is short-term then For the money. If it is long-term niche that you plan on taking market share, I would recommend build for the list and quality products too.

I believe in relationship business. Before I am interested on IM I was a subcriber! A naive subscriber who is very negative on believing that IM can make money. Through constant emailing and giving me the opportunities to understand the product and research I was ovwewhelmed by their passion and about 1 year then I embark myself to buy my first product! That was history..Now they become my menor & friends! Good friends indeed. Kudos to all IM mentor!

I rarely promote other peoples products to my list(s) and when I do it is only a product that I use myself and I usually try to add some value by providing them a video that shows how to use it to their best advantage.

I rarely get any unsubscribes but TomG is right, since most people don't read the emails you're not as bad off as you think!
