Example of Chili's Restaurant Listbuilding Campaign....

I happened to be logged into my email and saw this ad to try to get me to join their list. I think it's great how:

a) they added a second field to confirm the email
b) in the lower left hand corner they added some social proof with the "likes" button....

What do you think?

Other things I noticed....
a) very little words...
b) appealing graphic to stir up emotions (if you like this kind of food that is...)

I think more and more offline and traditional companies are recognizing the advantages of direct response marketing/advertising vis-a-vis that of "branding"

When you think about it, what is the facebook homepage but nothing more than the world's best squeese page,lol

    Wow! Look at their registration funnel....check out they sneakily grab demographic info right they squeeze the name and email out of the subscriber...

    That's a heck of a way, to get people to sign up, free food! That food joint can do so much with their list, their promotions are probably gonna be endless.

    A couple of questions. Why is this not spam? You say they want you to join their list so my question is how did they get your email.
    I had to look at the ad again after someone pointed out free food. I missed it the first time. So I would say put the free food first and secondly I missed the "like this" at the bottom. And since it doesn't take much effort to "like me" it don't hold much weight with me. I would take notice if there was a like and a dislike button though.
    I'm just asking.

      Hi,

      I believe he meant he was logged into his email and saw an ad, not in the email but from the email provider. For instance all gmail comes with ads, not from the senders but from google.

      Oh yeah, they donate $1 for every signup, so signup and help some kids out.
      First I was asking moneykws why he didn't consider it spam if it came unsolicted in his inbox. I sure would and have had enough problems with national chains and this kind of ad. I've seen enough to know that in the majority to get that coupon you need to give even more information and that really makes me mad.
      Second the free chips and queso is misleading in order to get that you have order an entree.
      And last I don't see anything to do with a $1 donation on the link I clicked.
      I have for one at least misinterperted it and that seems to me make it at least suspect.

          <--- What he said. I was checking email and saw the ad, I thought "hmm let's see how these large offline companies are going about list building..."

          The thing that struck me is the fact that they are smartly employing direct marketing tactics (grab contact info, follow up, etc) and your your typical "branding"...as someone said, when they build up their list they can do what they want to with it...

          I think in the future more stock analysts are going to be valuing intangible new media assets (ex.the discounted cashflow value of a great email list) because they understand how these assets work....

    I think it's a mistake when people on this forum assume that these big companies don't know what they're doing.... "oh look! They have a squeeze page... now they're as smart as us!"

    The fact is, a lot of these companies have been employing direct response marketing for years, and if it is branding they're doing... they're well aware of what they're doing. How do you think they got so big?

    (Note: I'm not having a go at the op... just the opinion of some members when it comes to this sort of thing.)

      I don't think it's a question of big companies not "getting it"....It's rather amazement how much they spend on "branding" but tend to under emphasize ROI-rich direct response....
