Success! $240 in 36 hours

Hey guys,

So i set up my first blog on July 20th.
Since that date i've been adding articles and collecting email addresses.

I decided to sell my first product to my list when i reached 500 subscribers which i did on Sunday afternoon. I've had 123 click through's so far and just had my 20th Sale! I was offering the product to my list at a 50% discount till the 6th September... so i will only really know how well the campaign has gone on Sunday - but so far looking good!

On the 6th the price goes back up to normal price and is available to non subscribers on the blog (getting around 400 or so hits a day, 50% returning).

I am going to send out product 2 when i hit 1000 subscribers

Thanks to all on this forum, i've been a bit of a lurker but learned some fantastic stuff here - i hope to start contributing a bit more now things are starting (slowly) to move !!

Thanks!

      Hi Jeskola,

How did you create so many visitors to your site so quickly?

As in, how did you generate traffic?

Also, what do you use to get people to sign up to your mailing list?

      Thanks!

        Hi Sean,

I use several forums and have done for years in the niche i now sell too.

What i sell is a product relating to that niche and of help to the people on the forums.

I guess because i have used these forums for so long they trust me enough to use my site.

I only use forums to advertise my products, but google has started indexing my articles - so am getting around 80 hits a day from Google.

I write articles on topics that will interest the people on the forums (and people will search for) , and in fact help them - this brings them to my site.

Then i have a sign up form, if they sign up (free or course) the have access to exclusive articles only available to subscribers and i also offer a free gift to them on sign up that they get in the auto responder mail.

Even if they don't sign up - they have access to loads of information that will help them in relation to the niche.
        So everyone wins.

I used pop up domination recently and have seen sign ups rocket (2 or 300%)

Well done on the sales and the successful blog.

Just a suggestion. Why not make your products available via some sort of autoresponder? The reason I'm saying this, is when you reach 1000 members, and you send out your 2nd product, the 2nd 500 subscribers wouldn't have had a chance the see your first offer.

If you use an auto responder type system, you can introduce your new members to your first product, and some time later (1 week, 1 month) automatically send out your 2nd product to the member.

      Just a thought.
Good idea! The product will be on sale on the website anyways.

When i mail out to the list i offer it in advance to the subscribers before it is released and at a discount price. But your right - perhaps offering the discount to every one who signs up would be more beneficial?

I thought the time limit would force sales... but thinking about it you could be onto something.

The thing is though i want to sell the thing through my site to people just browsing.

      Any thoughts?

Have to say that 123 clicks from 500 subscribers ... that's a very very responsive list!

Amazing! And then 20 odd sales from those ...

Great conversions and a great strategy to follow.

Thanks for sharing (will be trying that in a niche I've kinda let go cold).

I agree, very nice conversions! You should really be proud. It just goes to show you how valuable a list can be...and just think, once you get to that 1000 subscriber and market your 2nd product you'll be way in the lead of getting more buyers and repeat buyers. Way to go!

    Hey Jesloka,

Thanks for the sharing. It's stories like yours that keep us going, and keeps me motivated.

I've learnt a lot from your simple sharing. I'll seriously think through about how I can add value to others, and find a niche I'm familiar with.

Like you've mentioned, it's taken you years to gain their trust in the 1st place. So I guess I'll have to start somewhere.

I suppose, for long term success, there's no such thing as having fast results.

Thanks again. I really appreciate it

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I tried quite a few things from clickbank to adsense etc, and none of it really made me anything... i had no interest really in any of the products i was attempting to make money from - in fact my only interest in any of it was to make money. I knew nothign about dating, nothing about some weird or wonderful disease nor could i offer advice on brerakups - yet these were the things i was trying to sell to other people.

      I kind of gave up.

It was when i was walking home one night it hit me... i've spent years writing forum posts on the forums i use, and spent those years building up relationships with those users. Those users also have their own blogs and websites. Why can't i write the same forum posts on my own blog (all be it a little more in depth) and utilise the communities i was already part off. Those same people can post links or reviews of my stuff no problems and best of all they are all on topic! And it worked!

Being that authority figure when i spoke about my topic wasn't hard - being someone those people tursted was already there - i wasn't some person with 1 post trying to hook me into something - something a lot of people can sense straight away.

The topic my blog is on is something i do every day, it's my hobby... it's something i've done for almost 10 years and something i can talk quite confidently about. And for some reason i completley dismissed this when i was looking for something to sell.

My advice (and really i am no expert - i've only really been doing this a few weeks!) would be to find 4 or 5 forums that fit your niche, join them and spend time cultivating your profile. DOn't go in with the sale - hell... don't even mention your product. Get in there and meet people, help people out, log in - introduce yourself... your a person after all, make them see that.

Although i post regulalry on around 15 + forums which i post all my links to my articles on - 3 of them get around 80% of the trafic. These are the ones i've been part of the longest, they also have the highest user accounts. I'd look around for 2 or 3 forums with very high post / reply counts within you niche and spent 6 months cultivating your profile.

If your concise and clear with what you talk about , in no time you will become a respected person on that forum that people will listen to. When you get to that point you can start dropping in links to your own articles - imperative it is on topic of the forum. I think this is a great way to build up quality traffic to your blog.

Another thing i like to do is surf around the forums i read looking for threds created with people looking for an answer to a problem (that's on topic with my niche) - i then simply go write a blog post that answers that problem (take me 10 mins tops - remember before i would write a reply on the foum... no i write it on my blog but sound like an article) and then post the link as a reply.

You'll get an instant subscriber there and then this becomes a funnel for all the other people looking for the answer to this problem in future. 2 of these such posts are now my most viewed pages (1416 unique page views in 6 weeks).

Personally i am not looking for volume of traffic, i am looking for quality traffic. By posting links to my content only on forums on topic i can almost guarantee this. Of course Google picks this up - and then i get quality traffic again as the topic is a very slim niche so people won't just stumble across this, and even if they did they wouldn't click through as it's failry dull if it's not your thing!!

That was a bit of a brain dump - so excuse the spelling or grammer!!

      I hope that makes sense

      It's a very slim market.

I write a blog on tutorials for programming a specific synthesizer.

The product i sell is a pack of sounds for the synth i made. I plan on doing more packs, and also a DVD tutorial on learning the thing inside out.

There cant be more than a few thousand people out there who use this one synth. There is not so much documentation on it, so people turn to the internet to find out about how to use it. But there are not too many good tutorials for it. So i write and have guest writers write tutorials for it.

      Very boring i know

Just had my 30th sale there (the product is only available to subscribers at present) - so $360 since Sunday so far... I have an email going out in 2 hours that reminds those who have not bought they have a day left to do so before the price goes back to normal... so i should get some sales out of that. VEry , very happy with this so far

Sunday the page will go live to regular readers of the blog at $24, HOWEVER... i've decided to keep the 50% page, and i've set up a few auto responders for new subscribers with the 50% discount link in the 3rd email - around 24 days after sign up... so in theory i should continue to keep making cash out of this so long as people keep subscribing (thanks JoeSteyn!)

Thanks again guys - i'll keep you posted on Sunday how much the final total was.

Great work with this. I truly believe that adding real value is what creates wealth, especially in the long run. A lot of people just focus on "getting the money", and then wonder why they're not getting it. Money is simply a by-product of creating that value for people. If only more people understood this simple concept...

You have to focus on the needs of your prospect, and give them as much as value as possible - yes even for free. When you create a lot value, and people don't feel like they're being sold to, they'll buy. And I think you've done that pretty well!

You are lucky because you found forums where you can post your articles’ links. Most forums in my niche don’t allow links in our posts, and many of them don’t let you have links even in your signature.

Your method works only with certain niches, but your story is very interesting and inspiring. Thank you for sharing it!

      Thought i would bump this.

      Just checked e junkie.

$1663.28 USD since beginning of September

Works out around $33 a day average. Though usually it goes a couple days no sales, then 4 or 5 pour in.

Also got over 1200 subscribers on my list now. I need to start work on product 2 to sell to this list.

Just started work on blog no.2 - i think this new one will be a clickbank product rather than my own product. I found a great keyword (i think) so it will be a good test. Let's see how it goes.

That's excellent news sounds like you've got a really good business model, maybe you should think of some kind of membership site where people pay $9 a month or so, you should really start to see your monthly earning compounding then. Good luck anyway sounds like you're doing a super job and I'm sure you'll hit 5 figures before you know it!

Have you thought about putting some of your most viewed articles together into an ebook and then publishing on Amazon / Kindle? It's a great way to get your name even more widely known and make some more $$$.

Well done on your achievements so far... sounds like your on the right track for sure!
