Top UK Marketers/Gurus?

Hi Guys,

We hear a lot about the top US Marketers but I would love see who people think the top UK guys are.

Any thoughts?
#marketers or gurus #top

The top marketer tag would probably be open for debate on this one, but Chris Mcneeney's from the UK (Adwords Miracle, APX, etc)

He certainly earned a few quid!

      Andrew Fox

Not necessarily 'gurus' but successful marketers all the same - there's loads more but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

              Hi Andy

I've been here since Allen first opened Warriors and people had to pay for membership. But I've alway been a lurker No idea why. It just turned out that way.

Not sure when I'll next be over. I've decided to do a bit of work this year - for a change - so haven't got any trips planned at this stage. I'll make it over sometime though.

Mind you, you could always pop over next time you're in Singapore. It's only around a 7 hour flight. And you're welcome anytime

Neil Shearing has nothing at all to do with Neil Stafford and is not one of the 'two Neils'.

Neil Shearing is someone who has made a good living online since the last century but keeps a very low profile. His blog at Neil Shearing’s Internet Marketing Strategies is well worth reading.

I don't really associate him with IM. You're right he is a legend. He's also a great guy and a marketing genius. I've worked with him many times in the past and with DBA, as well as seem him speak at the IDM, CIM and through EADIM.

Good point. I wasn't trying to be contrary. Its just that all of the responses where IM guys.

There are too many great UK "top marketers" to mention!

UK IMers with guru status seem pretty thin on the ground.

              I wonder why?

In terms of advertising and marketing our agencies are regarded as the most creative, strategic and innovative in the world.

Maybe we need to set up a UK based mastermind group so that we can market each others stuff and convince the world that we are the best group of marketers that have ever lived...just like Kern, Pagan, Fallon, Jenkins, Filsaime, Silver, Carlton and the rest of their mastermind group.

I'm sure Drayton would pitch in.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Andrew Reynolds yet. He's probably made more than most of the above marketers combined.

His MO is typically to drive prospects via a letter or printed postcard to a website, where a carefully crafted, long-form sales page leads to a very expensive DVD set or live seminar event.

His live events have featured such marketers as: Ted Nicholas, Bill Myers, Derek Gehl and Stephen Pierce.

Yes Frank, Andrew is great but I'd call him more a direct marketeer than a total IM'er. Certainly up there though along with his former trainees Tim Lowe, Nick James. You can also add Pat Adams, John Lisgo, David Anderson and the daddy of offline publishing John Gommes.

You're right, Rich, although his products nearly all contain IM-related material.

Actually, I expect that many of the current IM gurus are going to get more involved in direct marketing over the next year or so.

They've been making concerted efforts recently to grab the postal addresses (and even telephone numbers) of their customers and prospects and there's been the spate of monthly printed newsletters/magazines created.

With increasing email deliverability problems, I can only see this trend growing.

Pat Adams was mentioned earlier; I've had four or five direct mailings from him, during the last couiple of years, each telling me he's now "retiring", and I can have his business for $a few thousand.

There's also David Anderson, another protege of Andrew Reynold's, I believe; he sends me a flyer every couple of months.

True, but in the absence of any follow-up post from the OP, we're assuming he meant Internet Marketers.

Otherwise, you'd have to include people like Richard Branson, Felix Dennis etc.

Didn't Stuart retire Janet? Or at least he disappeared from public eye! I know he said many years ago he was retiring after making multiples of 7 figures and unlike some that say that appears to have done so although he may be using a 'different' name or involved in something away from direct mail now.

BTW, I'd like to add Kieron Donoghue, from up Newcastle way, to the mix. He's got to be the highest, or one of the highest, earning affiliates in the UK. 2 years ago he said he was spending US$10,000 a day on Adwords.

I can't post live links here because, even though I've been here years, I haven't made enough posts to allow me to put a link, but here are some of Kieron's sites.

His main affiliate one is a voucher site at ukoffer com , another is bingo org uk and another is etoys co uk He's got at least 20 more.

You can read more about him, and find links to interviews with him, on his affiliate blog at here org uk/about-kieron

      HI Phil,
Wow! Interesting. I'm sure I saw something about Keiron ages ago and said he was doing very well but didn't mention figures so no idea it was THAT well! Great stuff. Us on the North East UK must hold our own!!! :-)

    Adeel Chowdhry.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Adeel. He may not be a "guru", but when he talks, I usually listen. He's one of the few marketers whose emails I read every single time, even if I know exactly what's in it.

How flattering to be on a list of such luminaries!

While I'm very happy to be on a list of top Internet marketers, the truth is that the only place I'm really a 'top' marketer is in my own home. And given that nobody else in my family shows the slightest interest, that's not so hard to achieve!

I think that if you look at Dr. Mani's list closely, you'll certainly see a dozen people who are serious about their Internet marketing, and who practice what they preach. You'll also find people who are happy to share their knowledge.

I'm very pleased to be able to call everyone on Mani's list a friend, and I know that not one of us would be comfortable with being labelled 'gurus'. (Apart from Harvey, of course, but then he does like people to kneel and kiss his hand when we meet - or maybe that's just me!)

Such lists are, inevitably, incomplete. I could add at least another dozen people and an awful lot more who don't like to have their real names used (but are often more successful than the rest of us put together!)

All I can say is that internet marketing is alive and well here in the UK and is populated with some really clever, generous, friendly, un-guru-ish (and in Kim's case, beautiful) people.

I'm reading "TROUT ON STRATEGY" by Jack Trout. Love the tagline:

"If you don't have the right strategy, YOU'RE TOAST!"

                A quote:

                - - -

                "DON'T BE AFRAID TO BRAG

... we continue to come across leaders who don't want to talk
about their leadership. Their response abut avoiding this claim
to what is rightfully theirs is the same: "We don't want to brag."

Well, being a leader who doesn't brag is the best thing that
can happen to your competition. When you've clawed
your way to the top of the mountain, you had better plant your
                flag and take some pictures."

                - - -

The one thing that's probably even better is to get OTHERS
                to brag about you!

My goodness, we couldn't do that. We are British, after all.

Our default position is self-deprecation and we respond to most praise with "Oh, it was nothing, really..".

Mind you, there is a rising cult of "Businessman As Superstar" in the UK, fuelled by TV shows such as "Dragons' Den" and "The Apprentice" so times may be changing.

Of course, online (where no-one can hear you scream), one has to sometimes play the chest-beating game in order to be seen as a player. But this still sits uncomfortably with most of my compatriots.

It can be funny observing someone you know to be a meek and mild lad offline suddenly adopt an aggressive, swaggering online persona.

                  Horses for courses etc.

Roderick, his products and initial wealth came from Ebay - he ended up having a fullfilment house essentially for his own products. Impressive in my book. However, he has jsut pushed ahead with this one thing really, he isnt into any of the normal IM stuff so I think I would call him an Internet Entreprenuer rather than IMer.

Mark Vurnum and Mark Anastasi are both buddies of mine and they live here in Cyprus with me...well, not WITH me but I do see them quite regularly. Both are great guys.

Mark Vurnum's brother Gary (nice guy) was mentioned by Dr. Mani and Gary lives in the UK.

I was at a 3 day mastermind group that Mark Vurnum put on at a villa down the road from me and it was some of the most fascinating idea sharing days I've spent in a long while.

Interesting Roy. I am on both Mark's lists. I've only met Mark Anastasi though many years ago at a seminar I believe he was partly responsible for setting up. From my brief chat he came across as a chilled guy.He seems to have grown into a mega hitter (think he suggested he would do more that $7 million Euro's this year in his recent mailer!) Never sure if he classes himself as UK or Greek?
I believe Mark Vurnum is a fellow warrior and posted briefly at the beginning of last year.

And not just because Dr Mani voted for me above!

In the UK, we do need to become more "brag-worthy". This is a big and growing, internet market.

And as for seminars etc, the Kent mastermind lunch meets again next Wednesday. Including a couple of the names mentioned above...

So do come along, if you are in the area. PM for details.

Trust me the 'Gurus' listed in this thread are poor compared to what the real top
internet marketers in the US and UK are making.I know one internet marketer in the insurance
market clearing almost $100 million a year and I know there are tons of other
people out there making huge amounts of money.

The million or so these 'Gurus' make from their product launches every
year is pocket change compared to what the real top internet marketers are
    making.

Funny how old threads can be resurrected, huh?

I guess I need clarification ... is the criteria simply how much money they make/have made or what contributions they have made to the world and/or community? IMHO it should be the latter.

There a name or two mentioned that I wouldn't take the time to walk across the street to spit on them if they were on fire because they do little to nothing after the sale in regards to support and/or all you get from them is sales pitches.

Rest assured that I understand we are all here to make a living but I find it funny how many “Guru’s” preach about establishing relationships then fall on their face when it comes to doing that themselves.
