Chargebacks - Do They Usually Call You First?

I've had a long battle with Chargebacks.

But I feel that a large part of my problem is that I've not had a live person answering phones. I just had a recorded message.

Do banks usually call with the person before issuing the chargeback?

I know that they DO do this sometimes, but how often is it?

Does the customer usually have to sign a form that says that they TRIED to contact you?

Or can they sneak through all of this without having to be accountable for anything?

I've had 2 in like 15 years - and one was for a stolen credit card. They (my back and the credit card processor) never called me before processing the chargeback. They just did it. Same with refunds. They do it first and then discuss things with you - if you're lucky.

Perhaps you might want to consider what you're promoting and how the product is. Having 100 charge backs might be very negative for your reputation if it's with paypal.

They'll notify you by taking the money out of your account. Then a few days later they'll send out paperwork on the chargeback.

I know -- but what I am asking is this:

When a person sees the charge, and claims it as fraud, etc, and goes to their bank, does their bank usually call first so the merchant can refund the charge? I've had an automated voice mail and its been hard to tell what percentage of banks call me first.

Because I prefer to refund the charges before the banks issue a chargeback.

The banks usually send a letter about the chargeback. If you do not respond to the letter, then the chargeback is automatic.

KirkMcD -- when the banks send the letter. the chargeback is already issued. The merchant has already been dinged the Chargeback fee.

It has been my experience that they CALL! They *****CAN'T***** use letters, since the turn around time has to be too quick! It is like a court case. The person doing the chargeback is like the PLAINTIFF! If YOU, the merchant/defendant, don't respond, or give a bad response, you LOSE! If you don't provide a PERFECT response, it continues... If you provide a perfect response, YOU WIN!
