UK Affiliates who do you target the UK market or the US market ?

Hi Guys,

Just out of interest do the UK affiliates on WF choose a US company or a UK company to work with if you `have ` to choose ?

I have just finished a site selling power tools i can choose a US to be my affiliate supply site and then only market to the US because they dont ship to the UK or i can choose a Uk site to supply the tools to the UK.

So UK marketers if you where going to sell a large item like power tools who would you choose to market to the UK or US ??

    Good question

    I still am not sure I do the right thing here but I focus on the US market on the basis that it is much larger than the UK market in terms of searches and potential customers. Also some affiliate programs are restricted to US anyhow

    Having said that I promote 1 product that is only available in the UK so I have a complete focus on UK sales here. I still have overseas orders which I have to refund but, hey ho, what can you do?

      It would seem logical to me that customers of physical products would prefer to purchase from a company in their own country - not least because of the cost and time of delivery.

      If you were selling something quintessentially English, it might be seen as more authentic to be UK based, but I'm guessing with power tools, that wouldn't apply.

      All else being equal, I'd target the largest potential market.

        Frank makes a good point here. The product I was referring to is a physical product that is mailed out to customers. Online buyers are quite parochial when it comes to physical products.

    Why not do both, Jim - with a .com and .co.uk ? Get the best of both "worlds". Or is it a case of one or t'other?

    If you want to get really adventurous, then try geo targeting your visitors - or simply have a highlighted UK link on your .com site.

    Just a thought . . .
