Any Alternative to PayPal?

Hey Folks,

Did you ever have a trouble with PayPal? One of my accounts just got limited and frozen and they said it was too risky to do business with me.

The reason being is that there were 3 people who reported that someone else used their credit cards to purchase my products. So PayPal canceled and refunded their payments and left me a small canceled fee.

When that happened 3 times with these 3 different people, PayPal decided to terminate the business relationship with me and froze my account. Is that fair? It has nothing to do with what I did but those who stole other people's credit cards to purchase my products.

I still have other PayPal accounts but I'm seriously thinking about finding another payment system.

Do you know any other way to receive payment other than your own merchant account?

Joe

I would recommend Google checkout. I had the same thing happen to me about 6 months ago to one of my business accounts at Paypal accounts, they said that the transactions were larger then usual. I am an accountant and the transactions were the normal amounts charged but Paypal said the customers were not registered or didn't have a paypal account and held the funds for 2 days. They released the funds but about a month later wanted more information or verification of my account and limited activity and froze the account. I provided the information they wanted and they released the hold on the account but I didn't trust them any longer and withdrew all funds available and switched to Google checkout.

So far I have not had any problems with PayPal, but have friends online who have had their PayPal accounts frozen and they were unable to get to the funds in their account! Pretty bad situation to get into.

I am also interested to see these other options that people are suggesting.

        Appreciate this thread.

        Thanks,

2Checkout.com - Merchant Account / Credit Card Processing Alternative How 2CO Works

They accept credit cards for you like paypal, and they also take paypal payments (using THEIR paypal account) so if someone wanted to pay with funds in their paypal account, you could still make the sale vs now your account is closed so you would be hosed.

Fees are a little higher - they are on that page too.

Sorry for your troubles. Hope this helps!

          You're very welcome.

Yes, the fees are a bit higher than paypal's, but I've had good experiences with 2co. The fees are listed on the link I gave above for easy reference.

          Best of luck!

i haven't used 2checkout, i'm evaluating them in case paypal pulls a stunt on me. The biggest con with paypal is having them freeze your account with money in it.
However I have heard that 2checkout is veryc customer friendly and that they don't support their vendors when it comes to refunds.

I was looking at google checkout as well but I didn't like their payment terms.

That's exactly what happened to me. They froze my account for 6 months. Can you believe it? What really baffles me is that I did nothing wrong. They even acknowledged that. I talked to two managers and they still said they couldn't reverse their decision.

Anyway, it seems like 2CO is the next best alternative. : )

ouch. it's always good to have alternatives. what's weird is the randomness of it all. there are those who do huge volumes of transactions through paypal and have no issues. then paypal will turn around a freeze someone's account for some strange reason that only they know. damn that, i don't like being a victim to something like that.
i too have been looking at google checkout and found the following:

When you use Google Checkout to process your sales, you'll be charged rates as low as 1.9% + $0.30 per transaction, depending on your monthly sales volume. And there are no monthly, setup or gateway fees.

          Standard payout schedule

Google automatically initiates payouts to your bank account within two business days after you successfully charge an order. Once a payment has been initiated, your bank may take up to three additional business days to register the payout in your bank account. To learn more about your bank's turnaround time for electronically deposited funds, please contact your bank representative. At this time it is not possible to choose how often you receive payouts for your sales, but we look forward to offering more options in the future.

          Payout schedule for new merchants

If you're new to Google Checkout, payouts will be initiated to your bank account ten business days after you successfully charge an order. After 60 days, Google Checkout will conduct a review of your account. During our review, we will consider a variety of factors to determine if your payout schedule should be adjusted. These factors are based on a proprietary set of rules, and may include chargeback rates, transaction behavior, and business credit reports.

If our review finds your Google Checkout account to be in good standing after 60 days, you'll transition to the standard payout schedule. The financial contact specified in your Checkout account will receive an email confirming this transition. To ensure you receive important notifications from us, please add the following addresses to your address book: noreply@checkout.google.com and noreply@checkout.l.google.com.

Please note that the payout schedule for new merchants does not apply to those selling paid applications on the Android Market.

          Things to remember

          * You must verify your bank account to be eligible to receive payouts.
          * Your earned balance at the time of disbursement or transfer must be at least $1 USD.
          * The Payouts tab is not in real time and will update within 24 hours of a payout. Learn more about tracking your payment balance.
          * Google doesn't initiate deposits on weekends or banking holidays. For example, if you charge an order on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, your deposit will be initiated on Monday. If Monday is a banking holiday, your deposit will be initiated on Tuesday.
          * If you have a monthly payout limit, and have reached it, your next payout will be initiated in the following month.

That's interesting. I just bought something online a couple days ago through Google Checkout.
It was a physical product and there was a shipping special offer for forum members, and since it's a forum I participate in a lot, I took advantage.

The checkout process was simple and the coupon code worked without a hitch. So, from a buyer perspective, it was really nice.

I have a site just about to go live and am going to investigate Google's payment system with it.

I might check them out too, I am always concerned about having my account limited. I used Alertpay for a little while and they were ok but you do lose sales when your customers can't pay by Paypal as I think so many people use it.

If 2checkout accept paypal payments then that might be the way to go.

Yes they will... in 6 months for nothing I've done. I've used PayPal for over 10 years and this is the 1st time that happened. But while talking to them, I felt like I needed to find another alternative since this is what they can and will do in the future as well.

No problem Joe. Since it's free I'm leaning toward Google checkout. it's a plus that they deposit the money straight into your account. Now if they'd just come up with an affiliate network to compete with clickbank, they'd really be onto something. it'd be nice if they bought click2sell and built it up into a credible network.

That stinks about PayPal. I've done heavy volumes there and have never had a problem. I always call ahead of time when I expect volumes of sales outside the norm, and they note it in my account... no freezes yet (fingers crossed.)

I have used Authorize.net combined with PowerPay and 1shoppingcart (got that setup for a live event to accept orders on the spot....) but didn't really have to have it after the live event since most customers would use the PayPal option anyway from 1shoppingcart.

The fixed costs aren't an issue if you're doing a good amount of volume each month... definitely worth a look (and you can turn the PayPal option off for 1shoppingcart.)

You certainly don't need PayPal. In fact, haven't seen that used by any of the big guns I know of in quite a while... probably because they want more control over their upsell / downsell process.

Sorry you got 3 hits like that, but there's certainly a lot of options.

Bit off topic, but does anyone know if infusionsoft works with 2co?
I've heard InfusionSoft is far more complex than 1ShoppingCart, that is, if you want to leverage the full boat you pay for. Could be wrong, but Ryan Deiss talked about how they have someone on staff just to figure out and code everything for InfusionSoft.

1ShoppingCart definitely is a pain in the rear sometimes, but certainly a viable option.

A couple of alternatives come to mind.

Has anyone ever tried Yahoo! Merchant Solutions: Create a store and start selling online ?
At about 1 1/2 % plus a $39 monthly fee it may be better that PP. I have a regular merchant account w/ americanbancard.com at 1.59% w/ a free wireless terminal but never tried to set it up to accept online payments.

IMHO its just damn crazy to have all your funds tied to PP. I think that it would be wise to give your customers a choice. Not everyone trust PP.
I would trust funds going thru my merchant account into to my bank account before PP.
