Can ANYONE make it in Internet marketing?

Hi there,

I'm relatively new to internet marketing and wanted to ask the question: can anyone do it?

What does it really take to succeed and what does the average person make who does succeed?

Is it purely perseverance and trial and error along with hopefully finding some good advice (this forum is a godsend since I started out with opportunity avenue which isnt TOO bad)?

Just curious what everyone's opinion is on this.

I assume its just plain simple hard work but I'm wondering if there's anything that gives someone an edge so you can pop yourself out of the rat race and being on a beach somewhere running your IM empire

Thanx for any replies

I think anyone can do it but the main ingedient is FOCUS. Decide what you want to do and stick with it. So many newbies get caught up in listening to the "experts" and it all sounds good. Heck it all sounds good to me and I've been doing it for 12 years So they end up chasing a hundred paths and getting nowhere.

Stick with what you're doing keep the focus and only accept change where it is incremental and will provide some greater benefit. That keeps you from chasing off on some wild idea!

And when something works "rinse and repeat"

I've been trying to get something going since last fall with minimal success. However I think that focus and discipline are key. I've gotten sidetracked by trying to learn everything and then spending way too much time watching instructional videos and reading pdf's versus actually doing something.

When I consistently posted articles I got traffic. Granted the conversions were terrible but that's more likely due to either the topic or my laziness in domiain redirecting to an affiliate page. IM is a business just like anything else and you have to be willing to work at it. The shortcuts (if they do exist) may come later when you have enough income to outsource a lot of the laborious tasks like linkbuilding, etc. in order to achieve a bigger return.

I'm not there yet but at least I think I know what needs to be done. Also time spent on this forum can help out a great deal. I really value what I've learned just by reading the different posts. But again it's very important to know when to stop analyzing and start Doing something.

There are averages and averages. And this one clearly depends on how you define "succeed" and is therefore terribly difficult to answer. But in this case, the "mean income" (as opposed to the median or modal incomes) is a terribly distorted figure, because there are a thousand times as many people earning $500 as there are people earning $500,000 (illustrative figures only).

    Not purely, in my opinion.

And being able to distinguish between good advice and bad advice is a hugely important skill to acquire, and one that comes more easily to some than to others. In my opinion, this is a major determinant of people's success/failure.

I haven't quite got that far yet, but I suspect there is, and it's kind of a cross between "judgment" and "interpretative skills" which is (a) terribly difficult to describe and (b) very subjective anyway.

Sorry - perhaps not the most helpful of replies, all in all.

I would have to say that NO ... not everyone can do it. There are plenty who fail. There are many who just jump from "technique" to "technique" and never really perfect any of them.

There are those that just buy get rich quick products and never implement anything. There are those who have no skills and cannot learn.

You need to read a lot of the forum and decide which direction you would like to go in. There are many ways to make money online: affiliate marketing, product creation, PPC, Adsense, selling a service, CPA, site and domain flipping ... the list goes on and on.

Based on your skills and what you prefer, you need to pick one, make a plan, learn as much as you can about it and implement it. You can always expand later when you've succeeded in one doing one thing well.

It takes focus and commitment to make it online, so I would have to say that not everyone can do it.

When I still worked a job, my office mate knew that I was doing this IM thing part time and she said that she would never be able to do something like this because she knew that she did not have the discipline to do the work unless a "boss" was making her.

Some people can discipline themselves to spend their "free" time working on their IM business and to focus on building that business. Those are the people that can "make it".

If you're talking about internet marketing in a sense that you want to make enough money to take control of your life then NO. My mentor at the time Nick Madison (NicheMarketNinja) said to me "It takes a special kind of person to want to take control of their life"

Not everyone can do because it's just not them, it's not how they think. Those that do want to make it online or any type of entrepreneurial venture already have it in their head that they WILL make it, regardless of how long it will take. Those are the types of people that will succeed. So no not anyone can do it because people are use to "working for money".

To answer your questions, it comes from a deep down desire to succeed online / offline ie being the business owner.

    Best regards

    No!

Not everyone is cut out for it.

Sorry to say that but it's the truth.

The same as some people are happy working in sales and some people are not.

People have different psychological needs and preferences and they mean that some people are good in areas where others are not (and vice versa).

Many people that get interested in IM have zero experience working for themselves and they're just not good at time management. Others just can't get enthusiastic and take action.

It's not a reflection on people - it's just the way it is.

The same as with those that do well - some of them make their money providing services that you or I would find boring and not want to do. Some people make their money writing, where you or I might not be interested.

When you do finally end up working from home for yourself - some people find they can't work well at home, or that they need to go get an office just to get work done.

It takes all types of people and there are 1000 different ways to do IM, but for some people it's no more than a nice idea that will never come to anything.

What works for one person isn't necessarily right for another.

It's just a case of how long someone will beat their head against the door before they realise they need to change their plan.

I can't tell you how many times I've discussed internet marketing with friends who tell me that they want to begin making money online. Want to know how many friends and family members took that first step? Zero...

It really does take a special person to succeed with internet marketing. Find a method you can use to make money online and get to work.

The biggest problem that 99% of marketers run into is getting distracted. Don't jump from one course to another. Stick with a plan of action and continue doing it for months/years until you begin making a good income.

Also join the website meetup (dot) com and find local online marketing meetings. Once I had a group of internet marketing friends my business begin to see success within months. I don't know how it happened and why, it just did...

    I agree with Alexa.

One thing I might add is successful people are usually very observant, they are consistently paying attention to what is going on. Success leaves clues.

I'll come at this from a slightly different angle.

There isn't anything about making money online that is so complicated that it, in and of itself, prevents people from doing it.

    BUT...

As others have said, the problem isn't IM, it's PEOPLE.

    All the best,

      Thanx everyone!

      That was very helpful.

I guess it's like some said: the actions you perform are within anyone's ability but the follow-through and long term interest and perseverance might not be. Well among other things.

      Thanx for the advice!
