Got a slow-loading site? Bad news

The below is obtained from a news story:

"Today a new survey shows that visitors will abandon websites that load slowly, and some will go to competitive sites as a result. The survey shows that nearly a third of visitors will start abandoning slow sites anywhere between one and five seconds. That's quite a difference from the "eight-second rule" of a decade ago and the half-minute many of us were willing to wait in the early, dial-up days of the web.
There's simply so much competition, most consumers know they can find what they want on another site if their original destination is too slow or unavailable. That means every second counts. The survey reveals that 37 percent of consumers say a slow site makes them less likely to return, and 27 percent say they'd be more likely to visit a competitor's site."

Makes Google's latest moves even more disturbing, eh?

It is true, although a lot of it is conditioned into people because most sites are super fast these days.

Google has your search results almost instantly, so when you click on a site and it is taking a few seconds it seems like an eternity.

Google will also penalize you if your site is slow to load. Slow pageloads also send up a flag for deeper analysis of marketing based sites, as this often indicates a site that is using an affiliate plugin that sucks all of its content from Amazon or such. They are coming after such "thin affiliates" now with a vengeance...

Yeah, a slow loading site is a no win all the way around ... less visitors and bad ranking.

      o

Which is what makes it so important to either host your own, or find a really good host. I'm struggling with intermittent downtime right now. May have to move.

honestly if the page is loading slow i will give it 5 seconds hit refresh and another 5 seconds after that i leave.

Its why its important to optimize page load times particularly of the home page.
