Questions about Creating Ebooks

1. Is it possible to fake your identity on the sale page? For example pay someone to use their picture that makes them look like a proffesor.

2. How to stop people from stealing your book and republishing it?

    1) Not recommend to do because it will hurt your reputation in the long term. If you want to make long term sales, you better keep in touch with customers and it requires true identity.

    2) You can't stop people from stealing your ebook. They can use any PDF2Word to make your PDF becomes Word document. The only solution is place as many links as you can and put the signature in the footer of each page.

That makes it harder for people who have incentive to steal your products.

    I hope that helps

P/S: For watermark PDF, there are some good software to do that. Just search on Google.

First off, faking your identity like you are talking about shows nothing but deception IMHO. On the sales page, why do you need to even have a picture except for the header?

Second, there really isn't any real way to stop someone from taking your ebook and republishing it. Usually the problem isn't republishing it and selling it. Usually the problem is someone just calling it their own and selling it. If they wanted to copy your ebook word for word and create another product out of it they could. Of course there are copyright laws, so you could probably sue them.

Basically stick to one pen name per niche. you can't be a believable expert in 3,4 different niches. Eban Pagen=David Deangelo (the pickup artist), Frank Kern= Dean Rankin (the dog training expert) It's all part of the game. As far as ebook piracy, you have to stay on the trail and ask the sites posting your book illegally to remove it (they usually will) but it takes a lot of work. Or use a high tech pdf security suite like Stompernet tried but it cost a fortune I'm sure.

Yeah, it's possible that you have someone to pose for a picture but I wouldn't personally advise it. Like mentioned it might affect your reputation.

There's really no stopping the spread of an ebook. Just make sure you have a copyright then just sue them when someone tries to spread it around. That may be the best one you can come up with.

Yeah, a different identity will surely hurt your reputation and your sales - just ask J.D. Robb or Richard Bachman:rolleyes:

This topic reminded me of years ago when Fred Gleeck told me "the best thing in the world you could hope for is that someone buys your ebook and sends it to everyone they know for free. It's up to YOU to have reasons for those free readers to come back to your website to buy more from you."

I know this wasn't part of your direct question about republishing, but is along the same lines to those worried about people passing it around without paying for it.

See the little emoticon? That's the sarcasm one...lol. The only niche that I think it is necessary to use your own identity is in the "make money online" stuff.

It is OK to look like a professor, but do not claim to be one if your aren't. That is a big no-no, to falsify qualifications and can get you in trouble with the FTC.

Also, to take it a step further (legally) don't go the extra step to look like a doctor, lawyer or police officer when you are not. This one might get you a matching pair of lovely, silvery bracelets.
