Anchor text link dilemma!!

Hi to all,

I have a question about using anchor text links in dofollow blog comments and article marketing. My understanding is that the anchor text link should contain the same keyword thay you're trying to rank well for on your site. Is this right? If it is, do you have to copy the keywords exactly word-for-word ie. using keyword "bank charge refund" on the site page and use "bank charge refund" as the anchor text in an article OR can you play around with the anchor text in the article as long as you mix the keywords with other words ie. "to read how to get a refund for your bank charge click here"?

Also, if I am trying to rank well for "bank charge refund" for my site page, will my anchor text links using this keyword only help to rank the pages of my site that have the keyword "bank charge refund" on it? If this correct, does that mean I have to create a ton of backlinks when using anchor text links for each keyword I am trying to rank well for?

I don't know how to tackle this because my new site is a product review site and my home page dives straight into the product ratings with little messing around and I really want each visitor, regardless of how they got there, to land on that page. My ideal answer is that I can just point each backlink to my homepage using various optimised anchor text links and that these will boost the other site pages rankings, but I don't know. If I do need a ton of backlinks for each keyword, would it work if I had every optimised keyword (15) on the home page as well as on their own pages?

Hope that makes sense and to anybody that replies thanks for your advice in advance. I feel that knowing the correct method for this will have a mega impact on my linking pay-off.

John.
