Simple question on autoresponders vs newsletters / broadcasts

Here's my simplistic thinking..so apologies if it sounds trivial to anyone

Say you have a list (in this particular case one of my IM niches) and mail them say 4 times a week

1. You can either choose to write the contents/promo/whatever emails on a daily basis as you go (that's what I mean by "newsletter / broadcast", depending with autoresponder you use)

2. Or you can choose to program an autoresponder series with pretty much the same content. And if you need to send any time-sensitive promo/JV/etc you can just send it as an additional broadcast / newsletter

The advantage of 2 is that you know for sure that every subscriber in your list receives the same emails

A slight disadvantage is that in some instances subscribers may receive more than one email from you a day and that may annoy them. But I think if your autoresponder sequence is decently spaced between messages (say every 2/3 days) this should be a minimal risk

Question: isn't it better to go for a type 2 solution and that ensures none of your work writing the emails to your list goes "wasted" for the subscribers that join at a later date?

Guess you can only find out the real answer by testing but wondering if anyone had had similar experieces / ideas?

Hope the question makes sense..

PS: appreciate many people use a combination of both autoresponders and newsletters / broadcasts..and I do too. Just wondering if a "pure" autoresponder solution would be more time-efficient...

I wouldn't use just one method.

Use both as broadcasts and pre-written autoresponder
series as each have their own distinct advantages and
    disadvantages.

Use the right tool for the job...

A sequenced autoresponder series for a structured
    presentation.

A broadcast for a more timely communication.

To be more time efficient, you can place your best performing
broadcasts into the latter stages of your autoresponder series
    so nothing goes to waste.

This way, your broadcasts still work for you automatically well
    into the future.

You'll limit your success if you just use one method.

Thanks Shaun, what you said makes a lot of sense

Guess then conclusion I can draw from this so far is "use AR to get a constant flow of information/benefits to your list + the best performing promos and use broadcasts on an ad hoc basis"

Thanks LifestyleTrans - couple of questions out of curiosity:

      - How spaced are your AR msgs? Mine are something like 3 days apart..

      - What kind of unsubscribe rate are you seeing? Out of a 2.5k list I've got on average 3-4 people a day (but it's been as high as 15+)

An autoresponder series can be use to "warm up" your list and deliver
on the promise you made at the time of sign-up but the newsletter
can go out at the sequence that you determine.

The key is to deliver on the PROMISE you made at the time the
    subscriber opted in.
