WordPress is going to give me a Heart Attack!

I'm creating my site using Wordpress, however there's a VERY annoying bug that's making it quite difficult!

My main home page is a static page with a long sales letter. I'm inserting the content using the page editor by simply copying and pasting the content from a notepad file.

Sometimes though, when I hit "update" the visual editor gets screwed up and I only see HTML code. I try refreshing, log in/out, but nothing fixes it. It's like the page doesn't completely load. Too much content on one page??

The only way to fix it is to trash the page and add a new home page and re-insert all the content. Sucks!

Then, last night something new happened! After getting half way through my sales page and hitting "update", the WHOLE THING DISAPPEARED!

I refreshed my site and all the content was GONE!

Is there some bug I don't know about?? From now on, I'm going to keep updating a separate notepad file with the latest HTML code. There has to be a better way.

What I do, is write my content in MS Word, and then, on the HTML editor in WordPress, I click the Word icon (its a small icon) and then a blank box appears. I paste all my content in the box, and it all appears in the HTML editor nicely, except that the spacing between paragraphs is slightly larger...but that's easily corrected.

There's this plugin WordPress › TinyMCE Advanced WordPress Plugins which enhances your HTML editor.

I have this happen from time to time, I thinks its updates conflicting with plugins. The last one was a Yahoo plugin. The only two ways I know to fix it is either

disable each plugin 1by1 until it works correctly

create a new page each time (simpler)

go into php myadmin and optimize that table.(this solves a lot of problems including performance issues)

Using windows live writer to do my posting helps to sometimes. But wlw doesn't seem to be able to keep up with downloading the new 2010 theme so you wont get to see the css and actual design if thats what you are using

If you're truly overrunning the amount of characters inside the input field, then I believe that limitation is a browser issue and not WP itself. As a coder, I ran into that issue years ago and found out that it wasn't my app that was failing, but rather the amount of data the browser would transmit in a single block.

I don't remember what the limit on the amount of data is/was.

Oh, and BTW, in case you didn't know this: you can have a static HTML page as your home page if you want and then use WordPress behind the static page.

Which version of Wordpress are you running?
If you happened to install it using Fantastico, i'd say it depends on your webhost as to which version they have.

Try using the Visual editor rather than the HTML one. I've never faced these bugs but q suggestion, try not to switch betwwen the visual and HTML editor while in between writing a post/content.

      Thanks for the suggestions.

So, it could be the browser or my plug-ins??

Once I have all the content put in, hopefully this won't be an issue. It's a PITA!!

This might be a good option. I'm using a theme I created in Artisteer. I could export it as an HTML file and then add content using Komposer. Would the resulting index file then be uploaded to my WP folder?

I've had that experience also, and found the theme I was using was the roadblock.

the visual editor inside of WordPress has always been subpar at best.

I always recommend that you do all of your editing inside of an actual WYSIWYG editor such as Dreamweaver or the free Nvu.

Then, switch the editor inside of WordPress to HTML mode and simply paste the HTML code from your WYSIWYG editor into the actual editor inside of WordPress.

That will cure a lot of your headaches.

      Talk soon,

Hi - when I'm updating a page, I use nothing more than notepad or wordpad to write the text - and then paste that into the editor on wordpress.

MS Word used to screw up the coding on all web input forms - and it may be that that's part of the issue. I amn't sure if Microsoft has "unbloated" the code, but I'd probably guess that the answer to that is "No".
