Newbie need help - Why I don't get any money online?!

Hi all warrior,

I am here about 4 month, and always go to the Warrior Special Offer Forum to find some useful information. I almost bought more than $100 in WSO, and try to build my online business. First I am interested in SEO, how to get traffic, and most of there idea is web 2.0 or get more backlinks. After that I need a system or blueprint that can help me to get start.

But the mainly problem is, I am not a native English speaker. I can't write proper English.
So, I got my ghostwriter who can help me to write English article.

Here is the first site I create Anti Aging and Anti Wrinkle Skin Care - antiaging skincare
And here is the plan I planed before:
1. I planed start with "Anti aging" niche, no reason, just find a product in a affiliate site.
2. Put some unique article to the website.
3. Write some product review.
4. Do some on-site SEO.
5. bookmark my site to many soical bookmark (use soicalmarker.com)
6. Write some article to ezinearticle.

After 2 month, I still don't get any traffic and sure don't get any money.
What did I do wrong in this plan or this website?

Thanks
Eric

The problem most newbie affiliates face is that they slam traffic onto multiple offers. You'll never make any money. That's why direct response is so powerful because it focuses on one goal...one product.

Create a site that's full of content but build a solid review page that reviews only 3-4 products (with your chosen one being the best). Funnel all the traffic to that offer by putting your own site wide banners on your website.

Don't just drive traffic to your home page, you'll never make any money that way.

  • You picked a niche at random.
To get search engine traffic you
must find a niche that a good number
of people are searching and that has low competition.

Use Google's free keyword tool, or any keyword tool
to research your niche and your potential target
    market.

Sadly, your ghostwriter doesn't write proper English either.

Why can't you write a website in your native language? It will be aimed at a smaller number of people, but it will be a market you understand much better.

Too bad, I don't know my ghostwriter doesn't write proper English either.

Just because I don't know how to find product in my native language (Chinese) that easy to handle.

But there must be a huge market in Chinese speaking countries. I personally think you'd do much better if you aimed your site at Chinese speakers.

First of all, can you please tell :

    (1) How many visitors your site is attracting per day ?
    (2) Are you tracking your visitors i.e. from where are they coming?

This will throw some light on your problem.

      (1) 122 Unique visitors at Oct 2008, I think about 6 unique visitors per day
      (2) About 60% come from United States, 20% come from Australia.
Just 2% come from Search English
      Some come from Ezine

Total newbie to the forums here -- but that's not much traffic.

If I remember correctly, as I was doing the 30DC with Ed Dale (thirtydaychallenge.com) his measure of whether a market was a 'buying one' started at at least 1 sale per 200 visits.

I also agree that too many choices confuses would-be buyers and causes them not to buy anything. Stick to one product -- you'll have clearer results.

You might check out Jackie Lee's current WSO -- her method of doing keyword research really makes "which markets to mess with" crystal clear imho.

        Hi Eric -

The product is not going to be a problem. Whatever it is - maybe a clickbank 'wrinkle' problem solver? (they have nice juicy commissions) - doesn't really matter till you have your traffic action plan rolling.

I kind of lean towards collecting names and building your list with a giveaway so you can get the number of exposures that it tends to take people to make a purchase.

Would you like some help rewriting some of those articles? I'm good at editing to "American".

I'd be happy to help and maybe you'd also be interested to check out a new membership site we'll be doing a WSO for next week? We'll be covering a "test a niche with squidoo traffic method" and I think you'd learn a lot from it.

Shoot me a PM if you want help whipping those articles into shape

What a lot of great feedback you've gotten here!

The key is going to be finding keywords related to your topic that you can rank for in the search engines. Your current traffic level is not really enough to let you know if you've found a profitable niche or not.

You can also build some squidoo lenses to link to your site, and drive more traffic. (and sell some of your affiliate product there too) If you use easy to rank keywords for that you will find you start getting more traffic. You can find plenty of reputable people to build lenses for you.

Once more traffic comes you will be able to make better decisions about your site.

    Good luck,
    Jackie

Slimboy, I can tell you this. The niche you are in IS profitable. I had a anti aging site that cashed in really nicely. At least $500 a month. After a year I sold it to the highest bidder because I didn't want to maintain it anymore and found other more profitable ventures.

If you promote the right products on the site you can make nice money.
You just need to do keyword research and do some serious SEO.

In the meantime, I recommend setting up a blog on your site so that you can post informative topics and then drive traffic through text links into your site's product review pages. It works like a charm especially in the anti aging niche.

    1. Your ghostwriter really doesn't write good English.

    2. Your niche research was a bit hit and miss.

    3. You don't have enough traffic coming in to determine if your niche is
    a good choice.

I would suggest first getting a new ghostwriter, then doing some keyword
    research using the Google tool

    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

If you don't know how to do keyword research, use the forum search

    Hi Paul,

    1. The home page content is written by me, so sure is not a proper English. How about the articles or product reviews?

    2. I think so. But I don't know what can I do now.

    3. Did I need to do more on SEO?

      2. There's some great tips in this thread about niche research, you can also use sites
like Clickbank, CBtrends and Google trends to find the hot niches.

      3. I would suggest doing more SEO with better keyword targeting, also look at using
      other marketing techniques such as:

      PPC
      SEO
      Article marketing
      Forum marketing
      Viral marketing
      Yahoo answers
      classified Ads
      Free Ad forums
      Press release
      blog commenting
      Backlinking
      bum marketing

There are many others, just do some research through this forum there really is tons

Do you know how to analyze competition for keywords?

If you want to rank for "Anti Aging Treatments" you need to take the word, head over to google and type in this: allintitle:anti aging treatments

Then look at the number of results. This will show you how many sites are REALLY optimizing for that term. It shows about 13000 competing PAGES.

Now the next thing to look at is the authority of the domains those pages are hosted on. I see some pretty tough top 4-5 sites. Oprah is also there. But I also see a blogger blog ranking in the top 10.

Now the only way your article is going to rank against those competitors is if you build links to it. There is no other way around it. EzineArticles can only carry so much weight for an article.

    Now let's analyze your articles.
I'm taking the first one here. The article is written quite nicely, but the only thing about it is the length. A bit too long.

You are linking with anchor text which is good. So that part is covered.

Now lets look at the BIGGEST FACTOR IN AFFILIATE MARKETING SUCCESS >>> LANDING PAGES.

The landing page is the life blood of any affiliate campaign. Remember, you are an affiliate, not a product owner...so you are going to work HARDER to drive traffic. That means that your landing page has to be the best it can be. It has to have a very clear call to action on it. It has to have a very good headline. It has to have BULLET POINTS. It has to have several pictures. Remember, you are promoting physical products, you ABSOLUTELY *NEED* to show more graphical images of the product.

And the last thing, you want to promote a product that pays you AT LEAST $20-$40 in commissions for an physical affiliate product. I remembered promoting Strivectin SD and got paid anything from $60 - $160 per sale!

One last thing I noted is the last part of your review on your landing page. You play of the negative part of the product far too late. You need to do that in the middle of your review so that you have enough content to build up the good stuff about the product.

    Hi slimboy,

The first thing I would do if I had instant access to your site is change "list of product review" to "list of product reviews", then change "list of article" to "list or articles".

Another thing is you might want to do is add an affiliate link in each one of your articles, that way when someone reads your article, there's a chance that they might head straight over to the product's page and buy something.

    Hope this helps.

        slimboy,

I am assuming that you are adding the affiliate links to articles on your website, and not on the articles that you are submitting to article directories, article directories do no allow affiliate links (or at least most to them don't) I know some do, just not sure which ones off the top of my head.

Also, you need to writing a whole lot more articles, about 20 or more.

There's a very fundamental problem with your strategy and even with the question you ask in this thread.

You've never asked the one vital question that is usually the biggest key to making money online:

HOW CAN I GIVE VALUE ONLINE?

HOW CAN I HELP THE PEOPLE WHO COME IN CONTACT WITH ME AND MY SITES?

Once you answer that question your chances of making money shoot up enormously.

At present you're looking for a million different ways to "game" the system so you can make a few bucks instead of looking for a few reliable ways to actually give value and help people.

            Kindest regards,
            Andrew Cavanagh

If you have submitted 4 articles you need to be doing it daily Like 4 articles is not good enough for traffic OR SEO.

I write at least 1 article a day for my main sites, or get others to do it.

I want to be doing about 10 a day, AND mass-submit them with software or sites like submityourarticle.com or uniquearticlewizard.com.

Also, you should focus on a landing page that sells ONE thing, to ONE market... that's why reviews work well...

rate 3 products and take the one that converts best as your top

I've coached several people all over the world to do this right and ALMOST all of them have made sales online now

Definitely one of your main problems is the English - your English seems to be as good as your ghostwriters. You really need to find a native English speaker if you can't proofread the writing yourself.

And as Chris said, only focus on one product on your landing page - if you give people too much choice they don't know what to do. If you do decide to promote more than one product use some sort of a rating system, so that you have a top product (one that's more popular than the rest).

sigh, the main problems really is the English......I hope I can find a good ghostwriter later.

About focus on one product on my landing page, is it just put one product on the home page and let the visitors click on the affiliate link?

You seem to have a good base to build your English on - if you write the way you speak, you are close to being functional enough to write articles for the internet. I'd just spend some time reading articles in places like ezinearticles and goarticles to help you get more familiar with internet English writing and go through your articles and try to change them. But it will take a fair amount of work to get to that point.

To show you the difference between a native speaker and the copy on your site, I am going to go through and rewrite a small portion for you.

Here is the first paragraph from your site:

Anti Aging Wrinkle Products - If you want to get more information about anti aging, then you got the right place to have a look. Here you can find information about anti aging, anti wrinkle, and anti aging product.

Here is my changed paragraph - this won't be perfect because I am just going through this quickly but it will give you an idea.

Anti Aging Wrinkle Products. If you want to find information about anti aging, then you've come to the right place. On this site you'll find information about anti aging, anti wring, and anti aging products.

Now, I definitely wouldn't keep that paragraph on the site because it is completely obvious that there are a bunch of keywords stuffed in there. Content needs to be helpful and informative. The keywords need to blend in with the text.

My recommendation would be to outsource your writing so you can focus on other things. Even though you can learn how to write the articles, internet writing is very idiomatic - that is something that your ghost writer missed.

Finding the right places to put the idiomatic phrases in can be a challenge to a non-native speaker. Even though internet writing seems simple on the surface, there's a trick to it and it can be challenging.

          Hi Katherine?

          Thank you to help me.
Your help is very useful to me, I think I need to think more about what idiomatic phrases is.
Internet writing is not easy as I think before, maybe I need to read more and study other Internet writer articles.

          Thanks
          Eric

The problem I see is a lack of quality keyword anchored backlinks. With 39 less-than-optimal links you won't get too far in Google search results.

I also agree with what 'p1a1u1l1' said about your keyword targeting. This needs to be more focused.

Don't worry too much about your content. You aren't looking for repeat visitors, just one time search visitors who click your ads and go on to another site to buy something so that you get a commission. Just make sure that the advertising is the star of the show on your site, not the content.

About the advertising, how to make sure those visitors will click on my ads?

If the ad matches the search term that they used to find your site adequately then you can expect about 10 to 20 percent of them to click on the ad.

If you look at my blog linked in my signature, the reviews one, you'll see two types of ads: inline eBay ads and sidebar banner ads. The inline ads are for targeted search traffic while the sidebar ads are for general audiences. Which set of ads do you think makes the most money? The targeted inline ads or the sidebar banner ads?

It's all about getting your ads in front of enough targeted traffic.

MarketHealth is excellent clark. I'm not sure what the experiment was with them, but I guarantee you that Gary over at Markethealth knows what he's doing. I have made a very very good amount of money with them.

I understand that they have an affiliate id problem but that wasn't always the case. I think I'm going to pick up the phone and try to sort this issue out. At least they know me.

I'm not the brightest bulb in the tree but I do know if your Affiliate ID doesn't pass through then the affiliate doesn't get the credit for the sale.

Absolutely right. But Markethealth doesn't do this intentionally. It's their designers who might have messed up with a certain product or template or whatever. I'm still going to call them, because this should not happen more than once (or at all for that matter.)

Translate the entire site and the articles into Chinese. Focus as much as you can on learning about the Chinese-speaking market. There are large populations of Chinese speakers all over the world, so it doesn't need to be targeted to China. I bet there are article banks in Chinese that you can use to drive traffic, too. If not, maybe you can start one! Once you're making some money, you can write up the whole process and become a Chinese internet marketing guru, selling e-books to non-English speaking Chinese. Pretty soon you'll get some smart non-Chinese speakers contacting you to build them an SEO optimized site in Chinese!

      Hi Wanderer,

If I focus on Chinese-speaking market, then I need to learn about SEO in Chinese. That a very hard job to do, because hard to find tools to do a research.

I don't think there are article banks in Chinese, but how to start one? That a really interesting idea to start a article banks in Chinese, but hard to find someone to write articles. But many thank for your idea.

      Thanks

Very good suggestion Wanderer. I think he needs to go where he feels comfortable. That way his writing will be fluent and natural.

The only problem is, chinese people aren't really into anti aging. Anti aging is an americanized niche. I mean, quantcast reveals this as bright as daylight.

In the Hong Kong market, people like to buy in a real shop more than purchase a product on Internet.

  • Ni hao, Eric.

Indeed, with article titles like "What are the aging treatments which is not invasive" and "A safe way to get the result you wants by using anti wrinkle creams and lotions," as well as introductory sentences like "nobody wants wrinkles on their skin, so we have to do preparation before we have them," it is easy to know one of the failings of your website.

In defense of your articles, however, some of them are actually very informative. One can see that the writer took time to do some pretty accurate research on the subjects you assigned to him/her. It's just too bad that his/her writing aptitude wasn't up to par with his/her research skills.

This is quite irresponsible for me to say, but even with such badly written content, you're still bound to receive some lovin' with your CTR for your PPC ads if you manage to drive substantial traffic to your website.

I don't think you're even getting more than 10 uniques per day, at the average.

One look at your link popularity will reveal the answer: 10 links pointing back to your website, one of them being your own web page.

For a 2 month old website, this number is - sorry to say - pathetic.

Perhaps it's the "build it and they will come" sydrome at play?

Eric, your main problem isn't being a non-native English speaker. As far as I can tell, you write better than the content writer you hired. I think your website's failure to realize its earning potentials can be attributed to strategical deficiencies - mainly the lack of implemented marketing strategies - in pursuing your business goals.

You see, in the span of 2 months, you could've achieved around 200 or so back links with minimal - yes, MINIMAL - marketing initiative. The fact that you just have 10 back links would indicate that marketing inaction is your gravest sin.

    Here are my suggestions:

    1. Write articles and submit them to article directories. No, this doesn't mean one or two articles in the span of two months. Try to aim for at least 3 articles per week.

    2. Relaunch your website - or at least, pretend to relaunch your website - and write a press release announcing its publication on the internet. Submit the press release to newswires around the web and you'd get AT LEAST 40 to 50 back links easily. As a relative beginner, I know you may find it hard to alot budget for this. If you can give me a week to finish my pending orders, shoot me a PM and I will reply with a questionaire. Return the answers to me and I will write you a press release for free.

    3. As Paul said, Yahoo Answers is a great way to get direct traffic, build back links, and "steal" search engine traffic while your website is in the pages of digital obscurity. Check your PM in a few minutes and I will send you an eBook about this.

    4. Forum marketing can help build back links as well, and you can start with your own signature in this very forum.

There are, of course, hundreds of other marketing strategies you can implement, but I believe that the ones enumerated above are the easiest, and they alone will be able to multiply your current results by 10, 20, 100 and even 1,000 times.

    Hope this helped, Eric.

What about opt-in page-everybody who visit your site will opt in (as a thank you for opting you you offer free report or small eBook) and so you can build email list.
you can also create blog, so readers could ask you questions and coming back to your site.
You have to build relationship with your readers-and that will not happen overnight nor in a week.
Try to over deliver, that is certainly the way to success.

I also recommend you buy some more courses (traffic courses, list building courses, marketing strategies...) from successful IM guru, so you will learn how to think like successful IM. Nowadays is in web space big competition and you have to learn how to be in advance.

    Good luck with your site.

There are a number of reasons why internet newbie's do not find the results they had hoped for after a couple of months. Typically it is due to a lack of traffic and visitors coming to your site.

However, it can also be because of poor content on your site, the type of marketing you are doing, or perhaps the niche you got into. There are certainly some niches that are far more competitive than others. Take the time to research and find niches that have demand, but are not overly competitive.

As for marketing, posting in forums like this, creating a blog, and article marketing are all effective ways to promote your business for free. Despite seeing little to no results, do not give up. It is going to take time for you to see the kind of results you had hoped for. And if you are willing to put in the effort, you will eventually begin to see results.

    Hi all,

Thank you all of your suggestion and advice.

I am busy with reading a Keywords research ebook call "Digging For Gold" that I bought before. And want to do a serious keywords research before I go on.

I think find a new ghostwriter is the serious mission I need to do first, a native English speaker who can write Internet writing and know how to write good article for ezine or web content that help to improve my website quality.

And the problem of the landing page, I don't know how to fix it. Maybe I need to study my competitor website and find the best way to fix my landing page.

About the Traffic problem, I really don't know how to do it right now to get targeted traffic to my website. But I think doing keyword research first is the right answer.

    Thanks
    Eric
