Are Holidays great Days to send newsletter?

I was wondering are holidays ever great days to send out emails. I can understand on Christmas people rather spend time with their family, but today is Labor Day, people are not working and relaxing at home and probably spend time on their computer.

Actually I've noticed people spend holidays cruising the internet
looking for opportunity. I noticed this in the "make money" niche.

Maybe it's because people had a little time on their hands - the
kids were occupied or they found themselves on their own
for part of the day/night. Whatever the case, the idea that
people don't look at the internet on Xmas is false.

(lots of people don't celebrate xmas for religious reasons, or
they're single and it just amounts to a phone call to their
    parents or whatever.)

Different countries have different holidays. Today may be a holiday in the US, but it's a normal woking day here in the UK. Last Monday was a holiday here in the UK, but a normal working day in the US, so I don't think it makes a lot of difference. Even Christmas isn't celebrated everywhere.

I find that things are quiet when the USA has a holiday, but for smaller countries (even Europe) their holidays don't seem to have the same impact on the sites and forums I visit.

Sent my newsletter Saturday (labor day weekend)....had an open rate of 58.4% so far and the majority of my list is in the US and Canada so I can state that either my list is comprised of the most boring folks in world who sit behind a computer when they should be out hanging with friends or holidays don't have much of an effect on them.

The reality is that as smart phones become more and more of a staple in the population, the less that holidays will effect things. Let's face it....I rarely open my emails on the computer anymore...why should I when I get notified everytime I get an email on my phone?

I'm going to disagree with what's been posted here. Labor Day weekend is the last chance for people to get away in the summer before the cold winter comes. I have a friend who says he's seeing lower-than-usual stats this weekend.

Quite frankly, I think everyone is out camping, at their beach house, etc and will be coming back today, Labor Day.

You'll see the same thing happen on Columbus Day in October.

This is classic supposition. You are assuming that what you are doing is what everyone else must be doing. Hard data has shown me different results. And over the years, I have seen better that open rates have actually improved during holiday weekends. I can only attribute this to folks NOT being chained to their computers anymore.

People are sitting around watching TV or barbecuing and checking their
email on laptops and portable devices. More and more people won't
    be unplugging on holidays.

You might not want to promote bandwidth-heavy or flash sites on
summer holidays because folks may be browsing on portable devices
with slow connections. I'm just speculating. I'm sure you can find
some data somewhere about web browsing habits on holidays.

People also sit around and watch internet videos for kicks. A lot
of dudes are sitting around eating cheatos, playing video games,
and playing with laptops at the same time today.

I think it is a better option to send a newsletter on a holiday, whether weekend or public holiday. Reason behind this may vary but one thing is common that work load is less on holidays and this increases the chance of paying attention to it.

Most people spend their holidays for relaxing but for the other people who are working with their computer on holidays, they are working on their previous projects and looking for new things. so i think its better that you try it at least one time and see the result of it.
