Newbie Overload!!!! Need Coaching, direction!!

Hi Everybody,

First of all I love this forum.. I wished I found it years ago and I wouldn't be sitting where I am today. This newbie has information paralysis where I'm constantly studying\searching but no clue where to get started. There is certainly alot of information, courses, etc.. to choose from and even though I've worked in the I.T. field for many years I'm ashamed to admit that trying to figure out where to start with I.M. has been challenging. I've read about blogging, creating websites, memberships, newsletters, creating your own products, ppc, affiliates, etc.. and normally I could put a plan together and figure out where is the best place to start but I'm not sure if I should start by building websites, buying domains, creating a blog discussing a hobby (wish I had time to have a hobby-actually I.M. will be my hobby)etc. If anybody has any input on any courses that I should buy or mentor\coaches that might have a bootcamp\training for newbies to start out with it would be greatly appreciated. What I don't have is alot of time and money but I have alot of determination to succeed. I've set my goals for 10 to 15 hours a week and a monthly budget of $200 to get started and eventually build the business where the money that is earned can increase that marketing budget to eventually being able to earn extra money per month. I'm sure everybody has heard this story a million times and please don't pull any punches with your comments. Its the only way for me to learn. Also,(Forum administrator), if there is a forum for newbies please move this thread there because I couldn't find it. Thank You.

I think all people who are experiencing information overload should just learn wordpress.

    - So go to youtube, type in "Wordpress Tutorial" and learn how to use it.
    - By learning wordpress, you can be freed up to do SEO, PPC, Message list, creating products, and all that stuff you just named off
    - Research on & off page seo, keyword research, and plugins (if you want seo)
    - For doing PPC i recommend you learn adwords, facebook advertising (See Jonathan Volk's Guide), landing page techniques, quality score tips
    - And I also recommend you to try promoting other people's products first, so you can get a feel of a market, then going to create your own product later down the line.

Start by figuring out what you want to do and what you need to be able to do it.

      1. If money were no object, what three things would you most LOVE to do all day? Or at least, whenever you want?

      2. What skills do you have? Don't say none, either, because everyone has skills - list them all, no matter whether you think they'll be useful.

If you've answered those two questions, then it's a matter of figuring out how to combine the two in a way that will make you money. If you feel comfortable with posting your answers, I'll bet the bright minds here can come up with some suggestions for you.

Then once you've chosen from the results, it's just a matter of learning the details that will get you to where you want to be. By focusing on that one thing, you'll learn more and acquire even more skills. Once you have that initial endeavor making money and doing well, then you can tackle another direction.

      Hey Derek,

Keep on learning. It is overwhelming to say the least. I agree that you can focus on setting up a Wordpress blog to start.

I would start with getting a scratch pad and pen in hand and make a short list of what you want to do with one product, whether it be your own or someone else's as an affiliate.

Then plan your way to get there. All the IM material out there gives out way too much information if you ask me. It should be put together to "spoon feed" you at your pace. Not everyone learns in the same speed.

I am putting together an IM product for newbies from day one. It is like my version of the "30 Day Challenge." It get's your blood flowing on where to start and concentrate on. I should have it complete before the end of the month.

I've been there like all IM'rs were when they started.

      Dude, just do it.

I'm a newbie myself. I read about it for a few months and then I just dove in 5 months ago. Stop being afraid to make mistakes, stop waiting for the "perfect" time and just get started and just START. As you start to take action, the answers you need will make themselves available. There's a saying by a marketer, Mike Littman, that goes, "You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going." As of now, you're doing yourself a BIG disservice by reading book, after book after book. I really just bought one ebook that taught me everything I needed to get started. After that, if I needed to know something, I just posted on Warrior Forum.

You probably know MORE than enough to get started, you're just making excuses. JUST DO IT! Don't worry, it'll be okay.

      All the best,

      Ike Love

  • One thing that would be good -- pick one thing, and become an expert at it. And become an expert at selling. When you have those two things down pat, then you can move onto others.

Also, be prepared to spend 2-3 months working your butt off before you see a dime for your efforts. Of course it is possible you can see results before then, but if you have no experience you have a lot of work to do.

Treat it as a business. Of course, you are starting off as an 'employee' when you start, but keep your eye on the big picture. You want to get to the point where you are working 'on' your business as opposed to 'in' your business. (Huge difference, and when you understand the difference you've made progress).

Dont just do something, stand there.

Get on the phone or Skype with a PROVEN EXPERIENCED FULL TIME INTERNET MARKETER who can tell you exactly what to do, and what not to do. Save yourself the headaches, lost time and money. A one hour chat is far more valuable than any course or program.

BTW - Kudos for asking this question. Many dont.

Pick one thing and learn and implement it in and out. The one bit of advice I can give you since you are already feeling overwhelmed don't get caught up in the rabbit hole of IM. This simply means don't go out buying every single shiny new 'program' that comes out, don't spend too much time in forums reading when you could be out testing, and don't get on too many peoples lists. Eliminate distractions. Pick something, then start implementing.

As a newbie myself I'm in the same situation. But I do agree with the fact that you need to jump in and do something, and you will learn as you go.
I would recommend starting with clickbank. its free to sign up and free to promote affiliate products. after you find what clickbank product you want to promote go get a free blog at blogger and set it up. Make a post in your new blogger account about the product you chose from clickbank and at the end of the article put your clickbank affiliate link in and thats basically it. Now This is just a basic concept to get you started but the key is your atleast doing something. after that start doing some article marketing with ezine and other free sources and write articles that get published with a link to your blog that sells your affiliate link. Just keep doing something and figuring ways to drive traffic to your blog. I like this way because it's all totally free to do and you will learn alot. But when you think you have it figured I would buy a domain name instead of using blogger because blogger accounts can be suspended for no reason. But like I said use blogger to get started and than move on to bigger things.

No problem, forums like these have helped so many of us get to where we are at (although I'm working harder to reach better goals), so it's only right that we give back, u know?

    Derek,

in my experience, there's only one way to drag yourself out of information overload, and I feel no embarressment in telling people it took me almost a year to do it.

Doubtless your hard drive is littered with crap. Not all crap, but the way its saved makes it crappy. I wouls spend a good 4-5 hours sorting out all the stuff you've bought about Internet Marketing, all the threads you've copied and pasted, and all the goodies ya got.

    Something like:

    _Work -> _Methods -> _Adsnese -> Adsense product 1

Or something (I use the underscore _ because it automatically puts the folder to the top of the list in Windows or OSx, as would any other punctuation)

Now, you have those methods there, ready for use. But, you don't want to use them all yet. One of the ways to drag yourself out of IO is to stop following shiny things that come along (new launches, WSOs etc) and focus on one project at a time.

Read and Reread the product, and make yourself a 10-step plan of what you need to do. Every day, work solely on ticking off two of those steps.

Eventually, you'll find something that works, as long as you keep at it until you MAKE IT WORK.

    Hiya!

Okay, first - you're great. Based on what you've written up there, you have everything you need to succeed. Not only that! You're asking questions and returning for answers.

One warrior here said, "thanks for asking the question - many don't." He's absolutely right. As brilliant as everyone here may sound now - we all suffer from information overload. So, consider this progress! Good for you - you've arrived at total confusion. Nowhere to go but clarity.

My suggestion (everyone has one...) is this:
The Challenge 2010. I can't post links yet, so it's: challenge dot co
It's going on right now - and it costs nothing. "There is no charge for awesomeness."

I offer it because it helped me immensely last year and this year it's all new. And! It's a take-you-by-the-hand, step-by-step course that is ordered beautifully, paced for success, and really well done. Plus, the education you'll get there in-depth and also fun.

The Challenge site I built last year is my best performing and most stable (G-ranking).

You should definitely check it out. It really helped me put all the pieces together. (You mentioned all the pieces in your initial post.)

Wishing you all the clarity and direction you need.

I think you can promote affiliate programs through Google ad-words.
    Its very simple :
    > Sign up as an affiliate in
    click-bankorpaydotcom.
These sites are marketplaces where lot of vendors sell their products.
    You can also use cj.com.
    > Search their market place to find products which you feel worth promoting.
    >Create your affiliate link :
Affiliate link is the link used to send traffic to vendor site.It is unique for each affiliate and this is used to identify which affiliate send the traffic.
    > Sign up for GoogleAdwords. It is PPC program where you can advertise in search results or Content networks.

You will be using Ad words to send people to vendors site.Once the visitor purchases, you get commission.
*It is the simplest method for a newbie.
*You don't have to maintain website or worry about SEO.
*You can get started within small time

But I would like to say that be careful. You have to be very careful.
    > Use proper research to find out a product that sells
    > Monitor the results on regular basis.
I think you can get some really good guides on Google ad words to understand the concepts.

Disclaimer: I give no warranty that this will work for you.

      Derek,

      Welcome to Warrior Forum.

In my personal opinion, the three things you really need to learn to begin making money online is how to set up Wordpress pages, how to write content and search engine optimization. Everything else will fall into place from there...
