Request for tips on mini-site: Micro RC Helicopter

Hello. I noticed mini RC helicopters are becoming more and more affordable and thought to give it a shot to make a mini site.

A friend of mine made a mini site on snow boots for women and told me his success with it. Currently he is in the top 3 at Google which I admire very much.

I'd like to get there as well...now I've posted my 15 first posts I've finally earned the ability to post links here, so I will gladly use it as another back link:

A mini RC helicopter, a hype for small and big kids: www.miniheli.org

Now I have a couple of back-links but is this all I can do to rank? Any other ideas on how to make more serious money on this website? A very big thanks in advance! I'm unemployed at the moment so could use some extra income.

Did you some keyword research? Find out what the prospective visitors to your web site would be looking for and then create keyword optimized pages that reflect it.

You should also post reviews and photos of really nice mini helicopters. Add a few videos about mini rc helicopters doing crazy things.

I'll admit I was into these a few years ago, and would still actually buy one.

Here's one web site I found while searching for "mini rc helicopter":

Mini RC Helicopter - Remote Control Helicopter

Not the best designed page but it has a few interesting graphics and videos.

This one's a bit better and ranked just under the first link I posted:

Mini RC Helicopter - Remote Control Helicopters, Radio Controlled Helis, R/C Stores

Try to get an idea of what they're doing and see if you can improve on it.

Good luck -- and hope I find your web site on Google the next time I feel tempted to buy a mini rc helicopter!

Thanks! I'll be on it right away!

This keyword research is hard I reckon...but you've got me thinking, I could make a page with stunts, and maybe one with missions...maybe I can let users add their experiences / tips as well!

        You're welcome!

For the pages -- make them JAM PACKED with useful information that will help your web site visitors decide what to buy, and hopefully click on an ad or an affiliate link.

The videos of stunts and missions are designed to catch your visitors' attention and hopefully get them to share your web site with their friends, e.g. "Check out these cool mini rc helicopter videos!"

But keep in mind that your ultimate goal is to entice them to buy. So have lots and lots of useful info coupled with a nice sprinkle of fun videos so they can really get enthusiastic about buying.

For me -- I'd read reviews, info, buying tips, what to look for when buying, what the best brands are, what accessories I'd need, etc. -- but I'd also spend time just sitting back and watching the videos while getting excited about the product.

Unfortunately, this is a subject that will be very difficult to grasp unless you are in it yourself. Things are now very complicated indeed. This is the forum I would recommend for you to do more research. I would concentrate on micro helis rather than mini helis. The latter are for outdoor flyers and the market is much more limited. I would also concentrate on models that were more suitable for beginners.

    Micro Helis - RC Groups

    Coaxial Helicopters - RC Groups

Just to give you a taste of the stunts that are available.

This is a video made by me to show how crash proof a particular micro heli is

derekwong28: Thanks for correcting my definition of mini heli, this is pretty crucial. Too bad I bought this domain name "www.miniheii.org"... RC Groups' forums will be of great value, thanks again.

04real: As derekwong28 has set the example I will browse youtube to find some eye candy on the site. Additional to that a section called "Getting started" might be a good idea.

Now I'm still not sure what niche to use, I've done my homework even worse then I thought. Which one would be best:
      • micro heli
      • micro rc heli
      • RC micro heli
      • beginners heli
      • indoor heli
      • indoor RC heli
      • indoor micro heli
And should I use heli or helicopter?
Finally how many back links would be enough to rank on the first page at Google in this case?

    Fantasyer,

I agree with the other posts your site looks too conservative which is possibly why you were asked to further research the market.

My suggestion would be to partner up with eBay and have a page full of eBay auctions as you will receive a commission when visitors click on auctions and can prove profitable.

eBay is also a good research tool & having auctions on your site will give it some credability. As for the domain name just build a site for both micro and mini models

helicopters items - Get great deals on Toys Hobbies, Collectibles items on eBay.com!

    Best of luck

I just wanted to leave a note about the content.

The page is just very boring. I want pictures to jump out at me, cool videos, etc. And the text is so tiny that I have to squint.

I would make it much more bright and colorful. The product you are selling is not designed for adults. Kids/Teens want something to jump out at them. They want to buy a "cool" toy.

Hope that helps in terms of layout/colors.

Too much pictures and video's make it too messy I reckon. There is a selection of pictures on the right which I selected based on their shineyness. But maybe this isn't enough. I want to make a movie myself soon, just a short one, with some nice music in the background and paste it in the front page.

There is this little buttons bottom left of your keyboard which sais: "ctrl" if you keep this pressed and scroll your mouse wheel up and down when pointing the text, behold it will increase and decrease in size.

Not a bad site... keyword domain is a bit hard to rank for... mini heli? Not sure how many searches it gets... your text is too small... ctrl + will make it bigger.. but its not the default and people will not do that for your site but they will leave it...

      Hi!
I can't imagine how your friend's site snowbootsforwomen.org can still rank highly on Google. Its basically a backdoor page with no content. I'm just curious how he did it. Does he use a lot of backlinks?

      Thanks,
      Wesley

A quick search at Yahoo (sites:snowbootsforwomen.org) shows that the only backlink is, ironically, from this forum.

Exact Domain Names are wonderful for ranking. Plus, the competition isn't very high... MS shows several PR0's... only one PR4. The top site only has 12 backlinks... it actually should be very easy to rank on the first page for this keyphrase.

I just checked Google... for me, he is on the 3 rd page of Google meaning there will be NO TRAFFIC at all to his site.

You need to be at least on the 1-3rd SPOT of Google to get any traffic...

I would have to respectfully disagree with that statement. only 1-3?

I've had a few sites ranked on the first page, around 6-9 and was getting very good traffic.

Sure you can disagree with me, but the first spot gets around 50% hits, the 2nd, like 20% and the 3rd like 5%... believe it or not but thats how it is.. research it and you'll be surprised..
