How do I sell my ebook?

Me and my partner are finishing up on our ebook on online advertising (buying, selling), over 200 pages. What's the best way to sell it?

Edit.... advertising and selling are two different things. Selling... a service to handle everything for when they want to buy it and pay me/affiliates.

    Advertise it. :p

In all seriousness, Clickbank can be pretty good.. or offer it at a discount as a WSO?

I'm referring to selling, as in someone to take care of the orders, money, affiliates, etc.

      What is WSO?

WSO is Warrior Special Offer.. you can sell products on the Warrior Forum in the WSO section, if you offer a discount. It's a great way to test a product before launch.

You can can join clickbank and sell list it there for people to find, and you can get affiliates to sell it for you. This can make a huge difference in the quantity of sales, getting others do the referrals for you.

Offer them 75% commission, so they have an incentive to sign up.

You need an affiliate sign up page where they can get their affiliate code, banners, keywords etc and promote your book.

Clickbank takes care of paying the affiliates aswell.

Alternatively to clickbank there is also paydotcom.

Yes, but you should make your own affiliate sign up page, banners, for the affiliates to use. (Most want everything on the plate).

Clickbank wont make the affiliate signup page for you, but if they find your product on the market place the affiliate can alternatively sign up and get their code.

But it is good to have a solid affiliate sign up page, offering banners etc, so the affiliates can use them to market your book.

The code? yes clickbank provides that, for the affiliate, which your affiliate page should instruct the affiliate what it is.

K, thanks for laying it out for me. I've never used clickbank myself (co-author has), but I thought I'd learn for myself.

They basically have an affiliate link generator, and there's no need for affiliate sign up page. But it is recommended that you include an affiliate tools page so you provide them with ads, articles, banners, etc...

Do they handle the orders, money, and delivery? In the past, I've used paypal, which requires me to setup a member's area for them to login and download.

Clickbank handles all the orders and payments (including yours and the affiliates').

All you have to do is setup a page with the download material and during the product setup in clickbank you input it all... then it is all automated when sales start coming in.

From then on... you dont need to do anything.

    Seriously JoesMillion,

Use the very same strategies that your "our ebook on online advertising " teaches. These should work just fine for you.

If you need some additional ways to sell your ebook, then there might just be a problem with the info in your book.

Okay, fair enough. I missed your question and didn't realize you wanted to know the physical process of selling your product online. Here are 3 ways. There are more.

1- To sell it yourself, you create a sales page - the sales letter on a web page that will convince readers they absoloutly must have your ebook, and you attach a payment system like PayPal. You also put a PayPal "Buy Now" button on your website. More about how to do that in a moment.

You also create a download page - one that gives a link to which people click to be given the download. This download page is just another webpage in which you put a "Click here to download your book," and you link that sentence to the copy of your ebook, which you have stored on your website. Buyers can right click to get the download, or left-click to open the ebook in their browser.

You "store" your ebook on a website - can be the same one website as your salesletter or another one. People can steal you ebook if they find the download link, so you give the download page an oddball name like Kjdem85gJg2.html, and add a robits.txt file and a robots no-follow metatag when you create the download webpage.

the URL of your download page then looks like:
http:// www (dot) yourwebpage (dot) com/Kjdem85gJg2.html

There are more effective ways to prevent unauthorized downloads of your ebook, but for now just get the basic system working. If you zip the ebook file, and give the zipped file an oddball name, Google can't index a file that is in a zipped folder. There is a free zip software called 7-zip, or you can buy Winzip. It's not expensive.

Also, give the zipped folder an oddball name - y7YtyHHg89tkL.zip. It's to this file you link the "Click here to download you book" sentence. Now you would have your salespage on your website, your download page at your website, and the zipped folder with your ebook in it also at your website.

To put them there you use an FTP client software. You are the client of a web host (your hosting company) and the FTP client software connects you to the place on the hosting company's computer that will be your website.

So your download page with the link is:
http:// www (dot) yourwebpage (dot) com/Kjdem85gJg2.html

and your actual product in a zip file is here:
http:// www (dot) yourwebpage (dot) com/y7YtyHHg89tkL.zip

It's this zip file to which you link in your download page. The Click here to to download your book" is linked to:
http:// www (dot) yourwebpage (dot) com/y7YtyHHg89tkL.zip

In PayPal, there is an option you click to create a new "Buy Now" button, PayPal will create the button and give you code to add to your website. Also, there is an option in the process in which you tell PayPal the entire path to your download page. PayPal will give you a script you place into the HTML code of your website any place you want the PayPal button to appear. This creates the button on your salespage for you.

So, what happens is a potential buyer finds your salespage, reads it, wants your product, and clicks your PayPal button. That takes the buyer to PayPal where they make a payement. Once payment is done, the buyer clicks the "Return To Merchant" link on the PayPal receipt page, and PayPal sends the buyer to your download page. You told PayPal the URL of your download page when you created the "Buy Now" button in PayPal.

2- Another way to sell your ebook is through Clickbank as others have said. In this case, you ould create a salespage that sends people to Clickbank to make their purchase, and Clickbank sends buyers to your download page.

You then become a clickbank merchant so others can sell it for you as affiliates.

3- Still another way is to build a squeeze page, giving people a "good" reason to opt-in, often an ethical bribe of another ebook free if they sign up. Add an autoresponder service by purchasing the service at a place like Aweber, GetResponse, Imnicamail, or iContact.

The autoresponder service will give you the script that will create their forms on your squeeze page. Add that script to the HTML of you site at the place(s) on your squeeze page where you want the opt-in form to appear. When somone "joins" your list, the autoresponder service will add their name and email to the list which they (the autoresponder service) is maintaining for you.

Once you have captured a potential customer's email address you start sending sales letters (and letters that give them good, useful information) to encourage them to purchase your ebook. Again you must have a method of accepting their money and sending buyers to a download page.

Then you "advertise" to bring traffic to your squeeze page.

Jack's suggestion about using Amazon in addition to your other methods of selling is a good one.

BTW Yes, that is a photo of me. I have no idea why I look familiar. Have you been to either Park City or to Cincinnati? I am usually at one or the other. I did spend some time on the convention speaking circuit, but that was years ago.

        I hope this helps.

Excellent advice, you should be able to get many interested prospects AND affiliates just doing this (make sure you have posted your product on Clickbank first so that it'd easy for affiliates to sign up) - you could even make this into a case study and highlight it on your sales page (this would only serve to underscore how powerful your advertising techniques are!)

    JoesMillion,
I'd also recommend you investigate using Amazon to publish your book - either as a kindle ebook - or a physical book. That way you can leverage Amazon's affiliates and marketing as well. They take a bigger percentage of your gross in exchange for handling the sales mechanics so you need to take that into consideration. But their CreateSpace department and companies like Lulu can help with the sales mechanics.

If you want to do this yourself then for downloading etc you may want to check out e-junkie and paydotcom while looking at clickbank. Fellow Warrior Sam Stephens' (sorry if I mangled your name Sam - being lazy tonight) DLGuard is also a great software package to handle downloads of your product. Highly recommended! There are several membership site software packages that can be used to handle payments and delivery as well. You can use membership software for one off sales too which lots of folks gloss over.

No matter what though if you want to be successful and make your affiliates successful then you need to provide them with tools to help you both out. See several of the great suggestions above on providing banners, autoresponse emails, book cover graphics, press releases, sample blog posts, tweets etc.

    Good luck,
    best,

Why in the world would you be asking this question if you have written a book on online advertising? Sounds like your credibility is astronomical! If you don't know how to sell a simple ebook online, what the heck are you doing writing an ebook about advertising online? Am I missing something?

I didn't miss anything. Advertising and selling go hand in hand and if you are going to write an ebook in that arena, you should know enough about how to do it. Again, credibility out the window.

In my opinion.Clickbank is going to be the best place to sell your ebook.
Because other companies like payloadz,Amazon-Kindle,Smashwords and create space can't give you maximum exposure compare to clickbank. You get Many affiliates from clickbank that wanna sell your stuff. That will 100% give you more exposure.

Well, not saying anything new here, but clickbank is the most popular solution. From there you have Ejunkie and even Amazon. Don't forget, you can even sell print books on Amazon that you wrote. They just take a % depending on the size and your options. But sometimes people just like a real world book to hold in their hands.

In my suggestion sell it on amazon . You can create a account at "createspace" (dot) com and send them your ebook they will review your ebook as per amazon terms and conditions at a cost of 3-4 dollar. Once they are done you can ask them for a sample copy . Once you verified the sample copy you will place your ebook on amazon cart directly through create space.

It's good because amazon will advertise your ebook and manager your sales.

If you decide to go down the clickbank route then, you will have to pay & one off fee of around $50 to be a vendor.

You will have to set up your homepage with your payment links to your ebook, an affiliate page with some promotional materials & a thank you page which you can test with clickbank.

Then you will be able to let affiliates promote your product. If you are offering a subscription based product then, the top affiliates will be queing up to promote your product because of continued commissions (back end sales) & you only need to offer 50%, but if it's a one off product then, you will have to offer at least 65% commission or no one will bother promoting your product.

Find marketers in your niche who have an email list & offer the marketer promotional material & a generous commission & you're good to go. It's annoying to give 75% commission on a sale, but it's better to have 25% of something than 100% of nothing !
