If you could earn $500 with AdSense...

Background: I don't make as much money as I'd like with AdSense -- just enough to cover the cost of some of my domains and hosting. Most of my income is in generating leads for offline marketing but I've been trying to build a feasible AdSense model for passive online income.

Question: So I'm currently wondering -- if one web site earns $5 on average per week with AdSense (pretty small pocket change really...), and I do absolutely nothing to promote this web site (traffic is 99.99% organic and coming from SEO keywords), would it make sense to try to replicate the web site, change a few factors up such as niche or keywords or topics, and do 100 similar web sites hence earning $500 on average per week (yes I know how much work that would be, but I'm just thinking "out loud" here...) or would it make sense to work with just one or a small handful of web sites that generate a higher CTR and yields higher CPM earnings?

    • Personally I would rather have fewer sites that are making at least $5 per day with Adsense. I had about 40-50 Adsense sites and it just got to be too much to manage all of them. Trying to add more content, keeping them relevant, etc.

As a result I sold off a lot of sites and only kept the ones that show promise in making $5+ per day. Many have already passed that.

So, in my opinion - I would go fewer sites but with more pages. It sounds to me like you are basically making MFA sites - which Google doesn't like. Eventually, if you just let the site just sit and never add anything new, it will sink in the rankings and you will be making very little. Add fresh content and your sites will continue to grow and make more $$.

      Just my 2 cents

    • ah...look at that...people are starting to catch on. Can't beat the 75-90% revenue share, that's for sure....
  • There are varied opinions on whether to create one big site or several niche sites to place Adsense ads with.. As much as there are many conflicting opinions on the matter, it is your decision to choose which model to follow - to build one big website or several websites - based on what is convenient for you, which model will let you earn more Adsense income, and the amount of time you are willing to put in establishing these sites..

The only requisite for the application of the two Adsense model is to test and tweak which model will benefit you most..

  • This concept sounds like it should work but hardly anything works like you think it would.. A few years back there was a marketer who had this theory that if you could build 100 websites that made $1 a day, you could make $100 a day.

The problem with this is that most of those websites won't make a $1 a day. What you will find when you deal with volume is that 5-20 of those sites will make the most money and the rest won't make hardly anything.

I could show some pretty profound examples for you. For instance, I have roughly 500 hubpages that generate about 35k of traffic a month. Out of those 500 websites, there are 26 that provide me with over half the traffic.

In my opinion, what would be better is to take the markets that are producing and then scaling them up, trying to become a thought leader in the markets that are working for you.

Just creating a huge volume of websites with not a clear picture of what is working what ain't is just a huge waste of time. And for most, time is going to be your most valuable asset.

  • It depends on your business plan. If you plan to build sites with $1/day/site model, you will need to think of managing 100+ sites.

If you plan to build a few sites that generates a lot of money, you need to think of making them authority sites.

It's different ballgame in every different business plan. For me, I prefer to work on 100+ sites as I believe it will give me a balance. To counter the hassle of managing over 100+ sites, I just use XSitePro. If you want to manage 100+ Wordpress sites, you have to look for another solution, which I don't have.

  • To be honest with you, I can't offer you any advice on Adsense because Im new to it. But what these people said above is interesting. I'll be testing out that info asap.

    • There are two very interesting American guys who live in the Philippines who focus there efforts on adsense websites. In a nutshell, they create between 20-40 niche sites per WEEK. They have a staff, I believe they do the keyword research themselves, then their few employees, manage the outsourcing of content, and build the websites. 20-40 per week! They sell many of their winning sites on Flippa. Their largest revenue comes from flipping. I believe their November income, as reported, was about $10,000.

About 80% of it was from flipping and 20% was from adsense income. Of course, you have to remember, holding an adsense website is a long term strategy.

I recommend you check them out - here. Their blog is very interesting.

  • @robsterhews Thanks for the mention! We've been creating around 40 sites/week the last few weeks, but we're really hoping to double that by Q3 of this year.
  • I had a website which earned me around $5k a month (but somebody clickbombed me, bye bye adsense) . So I more prefer to create one website which will generate that much (what is not that easy, took me more than a year to see the first $5+ a day) . But I reccomend you to not work with Adsense, or monetize your site with affiliate programs or cpa as well.
  • I would just focus my efforts on building traffic. The more traffic the more chances of someone clicking on your adsense. Also I find it helpful to read up on googles adsense blog and google adsense videos. I read and watched the videos to help with my adsense placements, where you place your ads is very important. But it doesnt matter if you dont get traffic. With this one site Im selling on flippa right now I just threw ads up on there not knowing what I was doing, was earning maybe 10 bucks a month, now Im making pretty good money. But it takes time, research and traffic.

Yesterday I made over 60 bucks with my one site, last month I made over $1600 and this month I will be making another $1600. You can do it, just doesnt happen overnight though. These arent mind blowing numbers, but they do allow me to have some fun money.
  • Of course you need to replicate.

If something works once, it's going to work twice.

The best part is, you can see which niches are doing better than others and scale up that way. AND, you can end up having sites which are earning more than $5, a LOT more. So you can ditch the sites that aren't bringing in much profit and repeat until you have a whole ARMY of adsense sucking sites.
  • You could either focus on a few or ONE site and really drive traffic there or have a bunch of smaller ones that trickle traffic with SEO.
  • Try to get a higher page rank, with a higher pagreank you get more visitors and also a bigger revenue from adsense

    Good luck!
