Question on idexed pages

I was curious about how many pages Google had indexed for a site of mine, so I did the site:mydomain.com query. It tells me that I have 'about 90' but when I go to the last page, the count is 78.

So I check my stats and the Googlebot last visited 9/9/2010 @ 3:33 this morning. I had 109 articles as of last night, plus four pages.

So my question is, if Google crawled my site early this morning, why are over 30% of my pages not indexed. There links to every page on my site.

This is just one of the many things I don't understand about Google, so I come here to try and get some clarification as I know that all the knowledge about Google resides here someplace.

Thanks for your help and feedback.

Google will index your pages based on how important your website is, and if there are external links into those pages. If you have pages buried deep in your site, with no external level one links, you are going to struggle. The best thing to do is have a HTML sitemap linked to from the front page, and then try to get some external links to your sitemap.

If Google still doesn't index those pages... then it just doesn't like you, thats all.
