Yep, flipping websites is a scam.

So is buying houses and selling them for profit.

And don't you even dare to think about opening up a used car lot that buys cars cheap and sells them for a profit!

Yea,

There is money to be made selling eBooks on the subject.

Also I've made what I consider decent money flipping low cost sites and domain names.

I've never made $90,000 though.

I'm just curious, what part of it seems like a scam to you?

I disagree with the statement that flipping website is a scam. What would you gain if you keep a site that you can no longer take care of? I mean , this is one of the reasons people sell their website.

Another reason is to help people research profitable niches and then flip the site.

If you say website flipping is a scam what about people who sell worthless ebooks with fake earning history on their sales page just because information marketing is quick way to make money.

To me, information marketing is not selling what you know , but selling your experience.

It's simple
you create a website that can bring in say 200$/month
you then go on and sell it at a reasonable price which usually is around a year salary (2400$)
You then are left with no site maintenance but just the profits you would of got if each month was constant

if you think of it, it's nowhere near scam territory and actually pretty cool if you do it well and are good at it
something i'm actually thinking of right about now lol

Money can be made in lots of different ways. Flipping web sites, writing ebooks and selling them, and scamming (unfortunately) are just three ways of doing it. Hopefully we don't ever get scammed (or don't scam others, hah...).

But there's no scam about buying a web site, doing something to improve it, and flipping it for more money. You've added value to it hence you deserve to sell it to someone willing to pay more for it. And if someone wants to write an ebook to share their flipping experience, then so be it.

The scam is when someone "pretends" to flip web sites, "pretends" to make a lot of money from it and "pretends" to know all about the flipping business and then create an ebook to sell to others. If that's what you're referring to, then yes, that most absolutely is a scam.

Ive built a pretty good sized company flipping websites, we did 174K the first quarter this year, $240K the second quarter and just sold two Site Franchises today for a total of $50K I can tell you for sure that its not a scam and have the tax returns to prove it lol. We have 14 Employees and just launched a major social media website that is very unique.

I'm in Florida also and I know in this business you can always use another trainee/gopher/slave. Any information you'd care to divulge would be appreciated. Alternatively I can work for it...at a reasonable rate of course.

Hey Brandon,
We have four brokers who work for us that sell our sites on BizQuest and BizBuySell, Here are a few tips to making more cash from your sales.
1.) We offer all our clients the ability to use our Marketing and SEO services for a share of the revenue each month from sales. The initial sale price of our sites start at $25K and go up to $80K Depending on the site. Getting this bigger price point is usually dependent on us providing support after the initial sale.
2.) Develop innovative websites and sell Franchises to Investors. i.e we just launched a social media concept and have sold 7 State Affiliate Territories to investors for $20K to $60K each. We arent giving up any equity in the site, we are simply selling rights to 20% of the ad and membership revenue generated in that state.
3.) Provide Proof of concept before trying to sell a website, do some work and get traffic to show conversion rates, then present a scaleable model that show them what different levels of investments would yeild in return. This makes it easier to combat the fact that your site doesn't have much revenue history.

  I'm down in Orlando, not too far away. It's actually good to hear that people are starting successful businesses so close to home for some reason... You must have one heck of a sales team to sell profit without equity. Personally I'd prefer a percentage of profit to equity, though. Then I own receivables without liability, especially with the social networking thing. But perhaps I'm missing something.

  I think if the offer is good enough and you have a good sales team you will be able to sell the franchise concept... escpecially if you can prove the concept out. Our Brokers get their leads from BizQuest and BizBuySell. We list our offers on their and get fairly good traffic and quite a few sales. Its worth the money you pay for the listings. We used to get a ton of traffic from our listings but i think the economy is hitting smaller investors pretty hard. We also develop concepts and get investors to fund the ideas which probably accounts for 50% of our sales. It also helps to have some solid history of success associated with your company. We took footballfanatics from 6M to 128M in two years and built sports.yahoo.com for Yahoo. We have a pretty good name in the SEO and Marketing industry so i know that helps us sell our "Concept Only" sites to investors. We also sit on the BOD for some private equity groups which puts us in front of alot of investors. Hope that helps.

Look, you have to look at the big picture. Some people want to purchase "ready made websites" and not worry about the hassles that comes with developing them (in other words, they lack either the creative thinking ability or technical know-how to do it themselves) so they simply pay someone else for their site. What's wrong with that?

I don't see there is any difference between flipping websites and selling anything else online. There will always be some people (not on this forum though, thank goodness) who will try to get more for a site than it might be worth; but I have lost track of the ebooks I have bought in good faith only to find they are worthless - I don't see any difference. It would be interesting though for the OP to give a few specifics because maybe there is some part of website flipping the rest of us haven't considered (perhaps, lol)?

Flipping websites most certainly isn't a scam, I've sold loads of them. BUT of course you should be wary of any website flipping guides that suggest it doesn't take work. A lot of sellers on Flippa seem to think they can list junk and get hundreds for it - just like anything else, it doesn't work that way.

But flipping in itself is no less legitimate than any other business model.

The thing you need to remember when flipping websites is that if your not offering something of value then you will not make a lot of money and you will ruin your reputation. We have to be very carfull that our clients are satisfied so that we can use them as a reference in the future. We have developed a lot of marketing software specifically as a value add and offer our marketing services to our clients as a way to help them keep their CPA as low as possible. Its going above and beyond just selling somebody a website and letting them go it alone. Alot of investors dont have a lot of experience in running a website because if they did they probably wouldent be buying one from you. Offering marketing services after the sale is not only a great way to increase your chances of selling the site but can make you more money in the form of profit sharing after the sale... keep riding the gravy train as long as you can! This is all assuming you can actually perform and drive traffic and sales however.

Completely wrong, our WHOLE business is building profitable websites and then selling them on after x amount of month's revenue.

Our turnover last year by doing this alone, was over the £1 mill mark, that is the amount just by the actual sales not the sites revenue's, so flipping ebook is a scam aint it?

Why many struggle at flipping sites? they sell on places like flippa, warriorforum etc...

We have ourselves a list of 250,000 interested website purchasers/businesses, our money is made via our list rather then on auction sites.

By selling an ebook on flipping they'd probably make $5k or so. Nothing compared to a $13,000 flip on a 3 month old site, scale that up? then the big money hit's home.

Anyway, site flipping has proven to be very profitable to me.

I sold sites in niches that were so profitable, I got triple my yearly revenue as selling price.

I once sold a site with NO income for $1900...it was a simple sales letter style website complete with product and clickbank account.

I was 17 when I did that.

After that I was hooked.

your statement makes absolutely no sense at all... all you have to do to see proof of this is go to http://www.flippa.com click on just sold auctions and browse through the listings...

By just doing it now I seen a website that sold for $18,000 just today. a $7,200 dollar sale multiple $1,000 dollar deals, too many 100-200 just sold auctions to count.
