Last week I spent a couple of days doing a lot of keyword research using the AdWords keyword tool, which many IM guides have recommend as a keyword research tool among the free ones available.
I came across some great keyword phrases using AdWords keyword tool, which I then planned to use in order to make some sales. But I came across a problem when I started testing out the exact same keyword phrases in the Google search-based keyword tool.
For example, "hotels in oxford centre", according to the AdWords keyword tool, gets an overall 2900 searches per month. But the SK tool says it gets 33. I was reading a blog post a minute ago by a guy saying he ranked #3 for a keyword phrase with an apparent 18'000 EXACT searches per month, but received far less than a 1% click rate.
Has anybody got any theories on the massive difference in results between these two keyword tools? I still consider myself a newbie, maybe there are some obvious facts I'm missing.
