Auto-Blogging - Is It True?

I was advise by my friend that I should not have just articles from a single source but rather have articles from multiple source so that my auto-blogs dont isn't seen as duplicate content. Is that true?

I have not had much experience creating autoblogs - but I do know I frown upon autoblog content when generally surfing and searching for information. I prefer original content.

The challenges you'll have with autoblogs is when Google catches on and removes your site from the index.

Strange, I've got a few niche news sites, all duplicate content, with some of them ranking #1 for their targeted keyword, and several others ranking on first page. And have been that way for a long time. Some of them have no backlinks to speak of.

Google doesn't care about duplicate content. They only thing they care about is if you are providing a useful experience for the user.

Of course I only pull from major news sources, use snippets, and provide attribution with a link back to the original article.

I actually did this as a way to keep up with topics that I and my wife were interested in. Over time the sites started gaining traffic and only then did I decide to to monetize them.

If they got de-indexed tomorrow, I wouldn't care. They are not my primary source of income.

I dabbled with making autoblogs for a while, and while I got a lot of traffic I didn't have a lot of success with sales. Autoblogging is a great way to get people to come to your site, but you need to have some original content to keep them there.

You shouldn't really be doing it anyway. It's not exactly creating a good user experience, and it can (hopefully will) get you deindexed from Google.

If you definitely are going to do it, consider pulling from multiple sources and only showing snippits (then having a "Read more at.. [external link]" link)

Edit: This post will probably contradict "guru" advice though. According to some, stealing other people's content without permission and creating a site without any value to the user is a good thing..

Google - Yahoo and Bing have been pretty proficient at it ...

Maybe view a niche auto blog as a micro focused Search Engine for 'widget X' ?

Original (quality) content all the way. But you can speed up the process a bit by buying a ton of PLR (which already everywhere on the web), and using a tool such as BigMike's Content Mania to rewrite it. Still, I have a couple of blogs that are just me and my opinions - and I use the rewritten PLR for Web 2.0 and social bookmarking.

If you start with PLR it doesn't take that long to make it unique and devent quality if you know what you are doing.

Seems to me you should ask yourself the question "Am I into Blogging to make a quick buck or to offer a service."

Auto Blogs CAN generate a quick buck if positioned properly. Flipside If you offer some original content you can generate a long lasting income.

    Blessings!

Your friend is right. Aggregate multiple sources. But don't post everything that comes through the pipe. Implement some kind of filter.

Most of the people that autoblog are doing it do it wrong. They just throw up Wordpress, spam RSS feeds and pretend they are offering a service. You can auto blog and provide something valuable.

I've had some of my auto blogs running for nearly 4 years now. They generate cash money every month. I think the secret to doing it is to emulate some of the bigger sites like Fark and Drudgereport.

Honestly, what service do those sites offer other than aggregating and offering up links? The ability to comment? Please. They are basically autoblogs and link farms. They have zero original content. Sh#$, Google has zero original content. They just re-use other people's. But they filter it somehow. That's the sauce.

If you can find a nice niche and aggregate content for it, you can have autoblogs that require zero maintenance and generate money for years and years on autopilot. This isn't hypothetical - I'm doing it right now. I even have a link to my system in my sig. And no, I am not selling it.

Just don't get down when people tell you this wont work or that isn't the right way to do it. Forget everything negative you are told and go try it. Poverty takes people's word for it. Wealth finds out for itself.

Autoblogs work, but the content needs to be unique. Grabbing articles from several directories and pumping them onto a blog doesn't count as 'unique'. It's called 'aggregation', and unless your blog adds significant value in some other way, or is VERY highly regarded, no search engine is going to be remotely interested.

There are easy ways to get unique content nowadays, ranging from $10 per article down to a few cents.

It is true, but not because of duplicate content.

What you want to do is create a good user experience.

So if you autoblog is about dog food, then you want to have articles on dog food, vidoes on dog food, maybe some Yahoo Q&A on dog food. Syndicate content that is useful to your visitors and if you add in a few unique content pieces too that can't hurt.

  • It doesn't matter. You'll still get filtered.

Autoblogs are for those who are brilliant Blackhatters or complete idiots who are to clueless to create anything of value.

    Which are you?

I'm the one who likes to make money.

BTW, I have authority sites. I have some auto-blogs.

I'm not an idiot. I'm not clueless.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

Every site I've ever built provides value to the targeted end user. It may not to you, or to others of your opinion, but I've received thousands of emails and comments from end users on some of my autoblogs.

      All I can say is...

      You are the idiot.

There is no right or wrong way.

LOL, I love Ezine Articles. They have tons of people writing their content for them and rake in the cash because of it. What a great business model.

And they are indeed the most illustrious MFA site anywhere.

    LOL ...

I have a few surplus domains and trying to setup them up as auto blogs. I'll be adding content from my blogs initially and would invite others if I am able to set them up correctly. I am not very tech savy so struggling.

I agree with TelZilla and cashcow. It's all about the user experience - and therez no right or wrong way. A well done auto site can add more value than a site with crappy original content.

I've found WP-Robot to be an effective tool. It can be a little complicated, but follow the docs and you should do ok.

      Here's a hint.

Create a "news" site around a specific niche topic.

I hope that everyone here understands the definition of "duplicate content". The definition is duplicate content ON THE SAME SITE!! An example would be a site, typically wordpress, that will reference an article as:
    http://site.com/category/article
    http://site.com/category2/article
    http://site.com/archive/2010/05/article
    http://site.com/tag/article
    and even
http://www.site.com/category/article (yes Google views http://site.com and http://www.site.com as two different sites, again this is duplicate content)

The above is "duplicate content" and will thus result in the "duplicate content penalty"

Having an the same article on multiple sites IS NOT DUPLICATE CONTENT!!

Google suggest that you use canonical urls: SEO advice: url canonicalization

Please also see to how Matt Cutts references duplicate content in this video:

I believe there is a middle ground in all of this. The key, as I see it, is to use the autoblog capability to ad to your original content. This way your original content is complimented and you begin to look like an expert in your niche.

That is, of copurse, my humble opinion.

    Thanks,

AutoBlog's work! People all over are talking about getting the unique content and all.
The problem which most of us face is that when we pool from multiple sources we might get same news/article in duplicates and hence accumulating duplicate content on your site.

The Simplest solution to this Problem is use of Yahoo! pipes. It is one of the Most amazing tool which you can ever get for autoblogging.

Another great niche on which autoblogs should be made is JOB- Site since no matter what ever the trend may be, jobs are something which people will always search for.>Pointer>Make Local jobsites

And their is a special trick for getting automatic backlinks for your autoblog->Think of Twitter<

And it also depends how to monetize the site.

In the end all i can say is your objective to make an autoblog should be clear, whether you are making it for Earning money or for Promoting your other blog/products.

    Regards,

    Ethne
