Know your market, or the real stuff white people like...

I don't know if you guys are like me, but I have a confession to make.

I'm a bit of a voyeur, and there's nothing I love more than spending a whole afternoon downtown or at the mall, drinking java and watching people go about their daily lives.

But once in a while I indulge in browsing the net looking for new market research data to help me keep ahead of the curve, and I just found this research today I thought I'd share. If nothing else I think it might get some gears turning.

Before I share the link, a warning is appropriate.
This stuff can get addictive.

    That's pretty interesting...

...and I can see where some of that information could be useful in marketing to a specific demographic...

    ...hmmmm...

Interesting, and maybe statistics "say" that, but to be honest, I'm white and I liked more of the things on the black profile then the white profile. I think most of it has to do with where you live and who you grow up around.

True enough, but unless you work in a very targeted niche, brand yourself personally and build a following that follows you and your values closely, you're not your market - the statistics are.

Marketers should never confuse their own likes with what the market is willing to pay for.

According to these stats - I fit better with the Latino profile myself. So I guess I know where to position myself to build a following. It's easier when you and your market speak the same language.
