I want to create a membership site that sells physical products, 10,000 plus items.

I have never done this before.

Some have told be that I should use WordPress to do this.

What is the best way to create the site and save me money and headaches.

Why does it need to be a membership site, why not just a normal shopping site

There is wordpress plugins that you can look for in this. But amember is a great affiliate script where you can setup pages that are restricted only for your members. Gives the option for your members to pay daily, monthly, yearly, etc and handles all the invoicing and billing. It is not too difficult to setup pages inside it, but you may want a web designers help, depending on your knowledge.

Don't make things complicated to your site visitors...Why you wanna charge additional fee for membership ? May be this is the world's first site of its kind.

membergate.com - supplies the total solution but much more expensive

I use EasyMemberPro it's quite comprehensive and easy to use and not bad at all, cost wise, especially if you get one of their offers.
I think they have a free downloadable pdf called "Membership Master: Building Profitable Membership Websites" which is worth looking at.

Take a look at vivvo - its a commercial grade content management system that fully integrates with some of the popular forum software scripts.

Have you taken a look at Cnet? They do reviews and then have links to where you can buy the products. Something like that is what I'am thinking about for your site. This would have to be manually generated content, and not auto-blog types of stuff.
